College Prowler Take

Drug and alcohol policies are pretty strict on campus, but the officers are always willing to work with people and to help them out, rather than simply punishing the students for their behavior. There is a lot of underage drinking that happens on campus, but because it’s not a dry campus, it can be hard to crack down on what really is illegal. The campus is extremely strict when it comes to parking; park in the wrong lot, and you’re guaranteed a $20 ticket. If the officers really catch you doing something wrong, you’ll get written up for it, but the penalties aren’t that severe. All write-ups get handled by Judicial Affairs. The Resident Assistants have huge jobs. Not only do they provide help for the students, but the RAs have to go on rounds to make sure the entire building is safe.

The students who complain that Public Safety is too strict are the ones who are getting busted. The students who complain that Public Safety needs to crack down even more are the ones who abide by all the rules. If students see something that’s not supposed to be happening, they should call Public Safety, and something will be done about it. Many students fail to remember that the officers are here to protect the students, not to bust them.

A-

Just as long as you don't make too much noise, bother your neighbors or damage anything you should be fine.

For the most part, enforcement is pretty lax. As long as you aren't creating a problem, you probably won't be bothered. Be discreet and be safe.

Campus Security is a Joke

D+

Campus security cracks down on all the wrong things at all the wrong times. They bust parties at the circle apartments, where juniors and seniors who are 21+ live, but do nothing to stop the ridiculous amount of pot smoking going on in the dorms. If you call to report people on your floor smoking, they take your name down like you're guilty. Because IC is a dry campus, they don't do anything if someone is stumbling around drunk or high on campus.

It’s thankfully not a dry campus, so as long as they don’t actually see you with a drink they won’t do anything to you. As long as you’re not loud or causing trouble, they don’t care if you’re drinking.

If you get caught, you’ll be in trouble. I don’t think they go to great extents to catch you, but like I said, they take it seriously if they see it.
