Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

In terms of drug and alcohol strictness on campus, there is not much tolerance for underage drinking. Students get written up somewhat frequently if they are having a party in a dorm and get noisy. As long as you are thinking about what you do and the possible consequences, you should be fine. Officers in the area are pretty understanding and just want to make sure everyone is safe. Although there is a lot of underage drinking that happens on campus, it can be hard to crack down on what really is illegal because it is not a dry campus. Generally, the students who complain that Public Safety officers are too strict are the ones who are getting busted, while the students who say officers need to crack down even more are the ones who abide by all of the rules. If students see something that’s not supposed to be happening, they should call Public Safety, and something will be done about it. Many students fail to remember that the officers are there to protect the students, not to bust them. All in all, if students need an authority to step in on an issue, the officers are more than willing to, just as long as they are notified.

On the other hand, the campus is extremely strict when it comes to parking; park in the wrong lot, and you’re guaranteed a $20 ticket. If the officers really catch you doing something wrong, you’ll get written up for it, but the penalties aren’t that severe. All write-ups get handled by Judicial Affairs. The resident assistants have huge jobs. Not only do they provide help for the students, but the RAs also have to go on "rounds" to make sure the entire building is safe.

Not Too Bad

Public Safety is always going around. There's always an RA on duty. So it's safe but it's not crazy strict. Unless you make it obvious that you're doing something you shouldn't be doing you're going to be fine.

Mildly Strict

It is good not to advertise your massive kegger on campus, or to do it at all here. While you won't get thrown out the first time you get caught, you will if you continuously get caught. That is, if the RA's decide to write you up. Many times they will just break it up.

Campus Strictness

The school is very organized. Rules are enforced but people do tend to get away with a lot compared to what I heard at other schools. Academically wise however, I feel they are very strict and reward those who work hard. Ithaca College overall is very fair.
