College Prowler Take
There’s no doubt that IC students partake in the use of illegal substances. There are even times where students go to class high or smoke pot in public places. This is not to say that all students are potheads, or even close to it. If students don’t want to have any run-ins with drugs, it is totally possible to do so. If students want to find someplace to get high every night of the week, that can happen, as well. IC is not a dry campus, meaning that students are permitted to have alcohol on campus if they are over 21. The under-21 crowd does its fair share of drinking, as well, but once again, if you don’t want to, you don’t have to touch a drop. Mainly, it’s up to the individual to decide what kind of lifestyle he or she wants to lead. Although a number of students use illegal substances or drink before they turn 21, the scene isn’t so prevalent that it makes other students uncomfortable if they want to be drug-free. IC is a school where it’s fine if you don’t want to associate with the drug scene. The Health Center’s drug counseling program is there to help students if they need it, and Public Safety officers work to control any substance problem that arises on campus.

I don’t know about any hardcore drugs, but marijuana is fairly common, especially given the pot signs in the downtown Commons shops. They sell some very pretty bongs, bowls, and hookahs. You get the idea. |

Drugs are everywhere—like you...
Drugs are everywhere—like you wouldn’t believe. Half of my floor smokes pot, and for a while, the campus police were coming three or four times a week. From what I hear, pot and hallucinogens are very easy to get in town. |

Yes, there are a lot of drugs...
Yes, there are a lot of drugs here. Pot is the most heavily-used drug, then ‘shrooms, then opium. There are some harder drugs, but they’re seldom used. If you do not want to do drugs, and you want to stay away from all illegal activity, it is very easy to do so here. |

You know what, I’m oblivious to...
You know what, I’m oblivious to the drug scene. Apparently, there was a big scene at my high school that people from other schools informed me about after I graduated, but I didn’t see it. If you’re into that, it’s college—I am sure there is something out there. If you aren’t into that, there are plenty of people who are just as oblivious as myself. |

People smoke marijuana frequently, and I am not aware of other widespread drug use. I had a pothead for a roommate freshman year. |
