College Prowler Take

At first glance, many of the buildings on campus seem like a flashback to the disco era. The Quads are the ugliest buildings on campus. Their cement and faded mint-green paint is very unappealing. One campus bright spot is outside of Dillingham, the theater building, where beautiful fountains spray high into the air, but they are only on through the summer up until fall break. IC doesn’t have the prestigious, historical looking buildings that other universities have because of the overall newness of the campus, but most of the classrooms are state-of-the-art.

The Center for Natural Sciences has extensive laboratories. The Center for Health Sciences has a speech and hearing clinic, physical and occupational therapy clinics, and a wellness center. The Roy H. Park School of Communications has a wealth of resources for media students, including editing labs, studios, and darkrooms. Whalen Center for Music has recording facilities and practice rooms. The College even has an observatory, which is the perfect place to look out in the sky. The Business School houses the Center for Trading & Analysis of Financial Instruments, and the lag time between the NY Stock Exchange and IC’s trading data is one-fourth of a second.

At a first glance, the architecture of this campus is rather dull and outdated. However, when you enter the buildings and classrooms, they’re comfortable and technologically advanced. To me, it’s not what’s on the outside that counts. The facilities are always clean. The gym is absolutely beautiful, and there is enough equipment and space for basketball, dancing, yoga, and for everyone to enjoy a good workout. The facilities available to students are adequate for any event, and with the right décor they are perfect for whatever the occasion may be.

Ithaca College has top-of-the-line facilities. Our computer labs have recently been upgraded, our gym is full of exercise machines, and our student center, well, it has a big screen TV. What more could you ask for?

The Fitness Center is very nice. It is very modern because it was recently completed. However, there are certain times of the day when it is very crowded and you have to wait for machines. The student center is also pretty nice. Many students like to meet up in the Pub to eat and do work together.

I don’t like our student center at all. It’s too small, and the space is very limited. The interior design of the building isn’t visually appealing. The brown is very faded and not pleasant to look at. Our actual student center is very tiny, and sometimes, I feel it may limit the students and their capabilities. The coffee pub is a good place to lounge, relax, or study. I think one of the best facilities we have on campus is the gym.

The Fitness Center is state-of-the-art: all new cardio machines, weight machines are always kept in good working order, classes are offered in yoga, tai-chi, pilates, and cardio-kickboxing. If the Fitness Center does not offer something and you want it, you can request it. Chances are, your request will be granted within a year if interest is fairly high. There are also several intramural sports and club sports offered to any student who is interested. You could play intramural floor hockey, outdoor soccer, badminton, basketball, or club tap dancing, ice hockey, or ultimate Frisbee!

Facts

What To Do on Campus

From grabbing some coffee, watching a film on the weekend, listening to a speaker, or attending an IC After Dark event, most students can find something to do on campus. IC doesn't have the many amenities that larger schools offer, but with the surrounding city, no student ever has the excuse that he or she can't find something to do.

Favorite Things To Do

Many students enjoy going to concerts at the music school or plays done by the theater department. The College brings in many speakers and performers which also bode well with students. The campus group IC After Dark sponsors theme-nights on the weekends as an alternative to alcohol, which are always well attended by students.
