College Prowler Take
Many students go to college expecting to find the love of their lives, their true soul mate, the person they want to spend the rest of their life with, but many times at IC, that doesn’t happen. Most connections are made with random hookups, so it can be hard to get to know someone. Many students bring long-term relationships with them and actually stay in them. With girls outnumbering guys, many single girls complain that the guys are either all taken or are gay. But the guys don’t complain too much. With a campus that’s very open to sex and any sexual orientation, if someone wants to be promiscuous, he or she can find plenty of opportunities to do just that. If students want to try and find serious significant others, they can do that, as well. One saying heard around campus is, “Ithaca to bed, Cornell to wed.” Many feel that while some Cornell students have more brains, the students at Ithaca have the upper-hand when it comes to looks. While each guy and girl at IC doesn’t take your breath away, and sometimes, it’s hard to get a good look at people through all the winter clothes, there are definitely those who make you want to stop and stare. The guy-to-girl ratio is very favorable for the guys. Although there are a lot of different people, most have at least a little bit of hippie in them. There are also a lot of gay guys and girls around because this campus is so gay-friendly.

I haven’t seen serious promiscuity in most places. People are fairly private, but if you go to live shows or bands, you’ll see people having too much to drink and hooking up, but the bar scene tends to be fairly casual. |

Yes - At Hammond Health Center. The Health Center offers condoms for sale, and women can get oral, patch, or injection birth control there, as well.
Social Scene
Like anywhere, IC has many different varieties of people. From the extreme introvert to the life of every party, any kind of person can be seen on campus. Most students are rather outgoing, and with only about 6,000 students, it's hard to go anywhere without running into someone you know. On the weekends, students do anything from watching movies, shopping, ice skating, playing a game of football, or hanging out in a bar or club. Sometimes, instead of getting dressed up, going out, and getting drunk, nothing is more fun than a movie night with some of your closest friends.
Hookups or Relationships?
There are both hookups and relationships at IC. On Monday mornings, you can hear people talking about their weekend one-night stands, and then you'll see two seniors holding hands who've been together since freshman year. It seems that there are two extremes on campus: random hookups and serious dating. There's not a lot of casual dating, but most long-term relationships happen with someone who's not an IC student. Most students who are engaged or thinking about getting engaged are dating someone from home or from another school.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
While some couples meet at parties, clubs, or bars, a lot meet through mutual friends, when living in the same residence hall, or while participating in something they are both interested in, like a club or an organization. Through group projects and assignments or just normal discussion in class, many phone numbers and AOL Instant Messenger screennames are exchanged. Many students have found that the relationships that last the longest are the ones that start with a common interest, rather than a random conversation at a bar.
Dress Code
From pajama pants and sweats to skirts and khakis, anything is acceptable in class. The earlier or later the class, the more comfortable the clothing gets. At Ithaca, there are the typical Abercrombie & Fitch and Gap guys and girls, and then there are the people who choose to wear only black. Unless someone wears something totally outrageous, most people don't even give that student a second look. One piece of clothing that has a place in everyone's closet: an IC hooded sweatshirt.
