College Prowler Take
Since IC is a residential college, unless you’re a senior, you must go through an application process to be granted
off-campus status. All freshmen must live on campus. Because of hassles with parking on campus, a lot of students find it easier to live close enough to walk. Off-campus students also have more problems with paying bills and not being on the campus Internet network. Most students sign leases in September or October for the next fall, and it is advised to read them carefully. Since IC has recently been having many problems with limited space to house all its students without relying on temporary housing for some freshmen, they have been encouraging more students to move off campus. Because housing at IC can be an annoying process, especially if you do not get your first choice housing, moving off campus has been a popular alternative to being dependent on the college for housing. There are many different housing options available off campus for students. From one-room efficiencies to houses you can rent with your 10 closest friends, if you want to live off campus, there is housing available to suit your needs. With on-campus housing ranging from anywhere between $5,000 to $7,000 per year, many students opt to find alternative, money-saving options.

It saved me about $3,500 between food and housing. And I’m right across from the back entrance to the College, which is nice. It’s closer than the Terraces. |

Well, it’s convenient in the sense that it’s not too far away, and in a lot of places, you can even deal with not having a car. Ithaca is a residence-based school, and anyone who isn’t a senior who wants to live off campus needs to get permission. I don’t know how hard it is. The only reason I think I will want to live off campus in the future is to learn how to do the whole house thing. |

Because Ithaca College is a residential college, there is little chance of living off campus until your junior year, and you are not assured a spot off campus until your senior year. Living off campus will save you a ton of money, as Ithaca College charges almost $10,000 a year to live on campus, but if you don’t have a car, commuting will be a huge hassle. |

It is much easier to get off-campus housing after your sophomore year. The college provides a lot of housing on campus, though. There are many apartments available for upperclassmen, and if you move off campus, it isn’t too hard to get a place to live. |

I don’t particularly like any of the houses off campus. To me, they seem run down and very ugly. I would prefer to live in the Circle Apartments. |
