Substantial Need-Based and Merit Scholarships

Cost was definitely one of the most important factors for me when it came down to choosing a college. Although I initially attended a more expensive university, I ended up transferring to Ithaca College because it was much more affordable for my undergraduate degree. If you have strong grades and extra-curriculars from high school, chances are you'll be eligible for some merit scholarships. On-campus jobs seem to be pretty plentiful, which can help to cover tuition or living expenses. Ithaca College is also quite generous with need-based aid, which covered a large portion of my tuition. Although scholarships didn't cover my entire tuition, they covered a very substantial amount, especially considering the cost of college nowadays. My best piece of advice is to devote some time to searching the school website for scholarship listings and information! There are tons of opportunities to apply for additional scholarships, and it's well worth it to spend some time writing a few scholarship essays. Chances of winning a school scholarship are much better than winning a national scholarship.
