Major Events
- Homecoming, which takes place in late October, and Reunion Weekend, which is in late April, are the biggest alumni events. In between, there are luncheons, meetings, happy hours, and countless invitations to athletic events.
- There are also athletic events specifically for alumni, like the Richmond Alumni Golf Tournament and the Metro Dukes Alumni Golf Tournament at Virginia Oaks in June and the Strawberry Hill horse races in April.

Did You Know?Dr. Marcia Angell (Class of ‘60) – Senior lecturer in the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and former executive editor, New England Journal of Medicine. David Gill (Class of ‘76) – Successful and well-respected artist.

Phil Vassar (Class of ‘85) – Award-winning country music writer/performer. He was the recipient of the 2002 Academy of Country Music’s “Top New Male Artist.”
Charles Haley (Class of ‘87) – The only player in NFL history to own five Super Bowl rings.
Delvin Joyce (Class of ‘00) – A punt returner who signed as a free agent with the New York Giants in February 2002.
Curtis Keaton (Class of ‘00) – Now a reserve running back with the New Orleans Saints, he was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Also, with 41 alumni serving as Peace Corp volunteers in developing countries, JMU was ranked fifth nationally in 2003 among medium-size colleges whose alumni serve abroad.
