Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Students note that Harrisonburg comes up short, as far as bars and nightclubs go. As a result, apartments and houses have become the main party venues. Some students complain about the fact that most of JMU’s students are heavily involved in the party scene. On Monday morning, as you dodge empty kegs and red plastic cups on your walk from the apartments to campus, it’s hard to believe that not everyone takes part in the weekly hullabaloo. However, if you choose to abstain, even the most dedicated of drinkers will most likely respect your choice.

Although students will lodge some minor complaints about the excessively flourishing festivities, the whimsical weather, the perpetual parking pitfalls, and the lack of notable nightlife, the overall consensus is that JMU is a lovely location to live. With JMU’s beautifully landscaped campus, the close proximity of the luscious Shenandoah Valley, the knowledgeable professors, friendly staff, and warm-hearted student body, it’s not a huge surprise that students spend four or more very happy years at James Madison University. Freshmen, upperclassmen, graduates, and transfers agree that James Madison is a unique place to receive an education. The amiable attitude around town and campus has created a truly welcoming environment at James Madison University and helped Harrisonburg live up to its nickname, “the Friendly City.”

The campus is absolutely beautiful! The classes are fun and interesting. Facilities are great, new, and convenient. Free gym membership and good campus food. People here are so nice!!! And there is ALWAYS something to do if you want to go out!

Great School

JMU has something for every one. If you're a partier, there's something going almost on every night. If you don't drink at all, the campus provides plenty of fun and interesting on-campus activities. JMU really encourages people to get involved, which is great, because once you do get involved you'll feel right at home. Even people who aren't really involved in activities still have a great experience because of how friendly and personal the people are at JMU. The academics are challenging, especially if you're any type of science major. But no matter what your major is, JMU does an excellent job of preparing students for internships and jobs. JMU is the perfect place. :)

JMU = AMAZING

JMU has been my home for four years and I would recommend the school to anyone. There are extracurriculars for every person, the professors genuinely love being there, and the food is incredible. LOVE this school!
