The experience of living on campus helps the campus to become a home away from home. The dorm events help you to connect with others and build healthy relationships with others.

The dorms are nice. North is new and very nice. The all girls dorm is a little older but well taken care of.

I lived in Hutch Hall this past year which is co-ed. It's a really great place to live, but you do have to walk up and down a big hill everyday to get to and from campus, which is especially hard when it is cold and windy and you are an art major with an arm load of supplies that are awkward to carry. I lived in a very spacious dorm in the U right next to a bathroom and a kitchenette/laundry room, which was great, but the windows don't open, so it gets really stuffy. Hutch is really quiet and private. I visited the men's dorm, J. Alvin, which they are in the process of renovating, thank goodness. It smells and the dorm rooms are closet sized. Plus some of the rooms don't get any sunlight since their windows face the atrium. Mayfield is the girls dorm and is relatively nice, but I hear it's noisy and a whole hall shares a bathroom. I believe their windows do open and they're much larger. Walker rooms are much like Hutch rooms I think, but a bit small and bathroom's are shared between two rooms. The open-dorm policies get really annoying, but at least they maintain security of privacy.

While the living facilities are very high-quality, there are some things that come as caveats. For instance, when living in a dorm, you are required to pay for either a 12, 16, or 21 meal plan in the cafeteria. The problem with this is that the quality of food in the cafeteria is incredibly poor. The solution to this is to try and get into the more independent living options on campus, but the only ones who have a remote chance of getting in are seniors.
