Student opinions vary on the importance and participation in club and varsity sports. Some say that varsity sports are a big part of campus life, even if everything doesn't revolve around them. While sporting events are attended, they aren't a huge aspect of the University. The same can be said for popular club and intramural sports on campus. While club and intramural sports may not be incredibly popular, there are many options available, and they are a great way to meet people, get involved, and stay fit. Additionally, John Carroll's recreation facilities are decent and meet students' needs, but they could use a little more. There is talk of future plans to remodel the student center and the athletic facilities.
The athletic program at John Carroll is well respected, whether the University has good teams or teams in which most students have lost faith. Men's basketball is an example of one of the University's best teams. School spirit is good at times, but never excellent. Most students attend basketball games, volleyball games, swim meets, and football games.
