Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Non-commuting freshmen are required to live on campus, and this is a good thing, as it’s the best way to get sucked into the Juniata bubble and meet the people who will become your family over the next few years. There’s an RA for every floor of every building to help you if needed, and most are laid-back and pretty cool about helping you with your woes. The rooms can be a bit cramped at times, especially in Sunderland with its extra furniture. If you’re a girl with tons of stuff and you don’t mind a bit of estrogen overload, head to Lesher—the rooms are bigger and there’s plenty of closet space. Tussey and Terrace are usually freshman favorites, and have the nicest bathrooms on campus. Listen to the students who tell you to stay away from Sherwood.

When you’re an upperclassman, you’ll probably want to head to Cloister or South. They both have great atmosphere, Cloister because it’s older, centrally located, character-laden, and exclusive to upperclassmen, and South because the ladies and the gents live side-by-side and it has the largest rooms by far. Most of the seniors who stay on campus live in these two places. Finally, all dorms are only a short walk from all the key places on campus, except for East, which is a bit farther away. East is the requisite party dorm; it’s fine if you want to experience life in a suite with seven other people, but weekends there are loud, which prompts many to choose just to party there, and live somewhere else.

Old and Outdated

Many of the dorms, though not too bad, are several decades old unlike dorms at other colleges. Some of the dorm rooms are small; overall, however, the campus housing is clean and close to academic buildings.

Housing

I lived in TNT both years I have been here. The dorms there are pretty nice and known for being clean, although they are a bit small. I have heard very good things about Lesher (all girls) and South too. Cloister depends on the room, size varies hugely between rooms. Sherwood is known as being bad, but I know some people that didn't mind it there. Sherwood is mostly freshman aside from 1 or 2 singles. I have heard good things about Sunderland, although it is mostly Freshman. Only live in East if you don't mind lots of parties on the weekend and being far from classes. Off-campus campus owned housing is nice for upperclassmen. The apartments in those buildings are quite nice and have their own kitchens and bathrooms.

Dorms

The freshman dorms (TNT) are smaller, but allow you to interact more with your classmates. East is not as wild as people portray it to be. Yes, there are upperclassmen there but doing the week it is as quiet as a cricket. Cloister is lovely and close to everything, but only open to upperclassmen.

Did You Know?
  • All Juniata housing is smoke free.
  • Sunderland was formerly called "North Hall," and many students today still refer to it as such.
  • Cloister is home to legend and tradition alike, as Storming of the Arch and the annual Haunted House occur in and around its walls. This is also the dorm where you'll find the requisite rumors of a friendly campus ghost, though whether this is actually true remains to be seen—or heard.
  • All students in campus housing receive free cable.
