Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Huntingdon may be small, but its restaurants keep students well fed throughout the year. It’s true that students often wish for more of them and more variety of cuisine, but for the non-adventurous eater, there’s a good selection for Huntingdon’s size. Restaurants around town are also easy to get to. A quick car ride or, if you’re willing, a 20 minute walk will bring you downtown to the Huntingdon trifecta: Boxer’s Café, Mimi’s, and Billi’s Bric-a-Brac Café. While Mimi’s might be more reserved for special occasions, students can always be found at Boxer’s or Billi’s.

What you won’t find is much cultural variety—there’s no food bearing resemblance to anything Indian, Greek, or Mexican—not even Tex-Mex. However, there are charming diners, plenty of fast food representation, and lots of pizza places. OIP is immensely popular. Sheetz runs are a favorite pastime of hungry studiers in need of a quick study break, and students can be found at this gas station/convenience store at all hours getting food to go. There are two in Huntingdon; the one by the Giant Plaza is the only place in town to grab a bite that’s open 24/7. Huntingdon’s selection is no match for that of a city, but for its size it holds its own quite well. And if culinary claustrophobia sets in, students can always hit the road. Altoona and especially State College are chock full of great restaurants to satisfy anyone’s appetite.

Check Out Main Street Cafe

If you don't mind a bit of a drive Main Street Cafe is fantastic. They play good music and create a fun yet comfortable atmosphere. Their food is very good and it isn't just bar food. The portions are also wonderful, I take home a doggie bag every time I eat there. Also, their prices are very reasonable for this area.

Mimi's Is Fantastic

There are plenty of bar and grills in town with average prices. Mimi's is more of a fine-dining experience and a tad more costly. But the taste is well worth it.

Off-Campus Dining

There are plenty of off-campus dining options and are usually pretty cheap, friendly, and they offer a student discount. The more expensive restaurant is Mimi's, but the food is great. Standing Stone is a must. They offer a variety of coffees and paninis. Another great place to eat is Boxer's Cafe. They have a great variety in beers and I particularly like the vegetarian options.
