Not so High-tech but Free Printing

There are several computer labs on campus...usually, there are enough computers and laptops for people..however, when the library is busy, alot of times, one feels that there should be more computers. Printing is easy, and each student gets 1,000 pages a semester of free printing.

Diversity- but Not How You Think

People may be surprised at my high rating, since Juniata is not known for being ethnically diverse. Students here are mostly caucasian, with a decent amount of Asian students, and other ethnicities represented by a very small number of students. However, this school is diverse in other ways, especially when it comes to personality. You can find everyone from nerds to jocks here, and lots of people in between. People are also generally accepting of those of other sexual orientations and there is a pretty strong LGBT community on campus. There is definitely a lot of economic diversity. And there are representatives from most major religions. So while Juniata is far from racially diverse, you would be surprised at the wide variety of people on campus. There are other telling measures of diversity.

Food

Everyone complains about Baker, and there is a reason for that. However, they have been rapidly improving, especially their vegetarian options. As a vegetarian, I initially struggled greatly to find things to eat at Baker, but the Wok this Way line (a personal favorite), the LOVE (Local Organic Vegetarian Ethical) line, and brand new Vegan line have opened up many great new options. Eagles Landing upstairs has decent food, although the options there are very limited and may get old after a while. So while food here isn't great, it isn't as bad as people say.

Yay Juniata!

I personally love it here. The classes and professors are great. It is also REALLY easy to contact professors or find someone to answer your questions. The students are very friendly and it is easy to make friends. I also like the rural atmosphere. I have very few complaints about this school. I would absolutely choose it again.

Top Academics for Sciences

Juniata has excellent programs in science and has an almost perfect reputation for sending students to med school. As well, the Peace and Conflict programs, as well as International Studies programs are top of the line taught by professors with experience and knowledge on their subjects.

Admission

It's a little bit tricky to get into the school. You have to show strong academics in high school and appear well rounded on a piece of paper. The admissions counselors are fantastic though. They will help you with any issue or concern. The application process is pretty nice. The essay is awesome because you can choose the topic and the application is online and standardized so you can use it for other schools.

Quality education

Juniata is mainly known as that science school. Even though science is greatly emphasized here, I believe that the rest of our majors are given just as much attention as well. The classes are small so I can receive individual help if I do not understand what is going on in class. Professors have set office hours, but most of the time, my professors have told me I could drop by any time i wanted to if I needed help.

When I was a freshmen, I was shocked at the amount of in class participation I had to do. In high school, my grades was never dependent on class participation. Now however, 20% of my grade in nearly all my classes depend on my participation. I absolutely hated this at first. But now that I am a sophomore this year, I realized I really enjoy the participation in class. Participating helps my better understand the topics and develop new ideas on what we're talking about. For the people that are scared to participate, don't worry-the students and professors are almost 100% very welcoming of your opinions and views.

I am an IT major and I love my department. I teach the required freshmen course IA. I really like being bale to take what I learn from class and actually apply it to students I teach if I find the opportunity.

Additionally, a lot of professors live a minute off campus. The head of the IT department and IA is Dr. Rhodes. Before my IA job started, he had all the employees over for a barbeque followed by an orientation for the job. How many professors at other schools would invite you over for a barbeque?

Overall, there is so much to talk about academically at Juniata. Every aspect is amazing in its own way!

Really Really Flexible

Juniata is extremely flexible with majors. You can combine to create a major or graduate in one major with other classes sprinkled in as well.

Unbelievably Safe

Juniata College is one of the safest places I can think of. At first when you see the people that are used to it leaving their doors open and leaving their stuff everywhere you think "Wow. How stupid." However, after just a short time of being at Juniata you start doing the same things. Everyone there trusts each other, and have reason to. After one year of being there I haven't even heard of anyone stealing anything or breaking into anyone's room or dormitory. I can't imagine that any other college or university is like this.

Boxer's is a small restaurant/ bar. When you walk in you feel as if you are in a tavern. The walls are decorated with fun and interesting designs. The food is amazing and inexpensive!

I Feel Safe

I feel very safe on campus. I can leave my backpack in the library, unwatched, for hours at a time and know that nothing will happen to it. There is a comforting sense of trust with the other students. There have been a few vandalism acts with bicycles though...other than that it is a very safe campus.

Juniata Is Worldly

For being a small college of about 1,400 students, Juniata College has a very diverse campus. There are many exchange programs that Juniata is a part of, which brings in students from all over the world.

I fell in love with Juniata the first time I visited, and I’ve been there three years and I’m still in love. I couldn’t have dreamed up a better college experience than the one I’m having. I bet nine out of ten JC alums would agree that it’s the best time of your life, not just because it’s college, but because it’s college at Juniata.

How diverse is a loaf of white bread? We have some diversity, and they’re trying really hard, but as of right now, there isn’t much. People talk about it all the time. We do have students from 31 countries, which is a hell of a lot of cultural diversity, if not ethnic.

Juniata is rather famous among its students and faculty for not being diverse but wanting to be more than anything. The diversity levels are rather low, but Juniata is always pushing to include everyone. Since we’re located in central PA, it’s hard to find local diversity. There have been a few skirmishes between the ‘diverse’ students and those not used to being surrounded by diversity, but Juniata upholds and respects diversity and liberalness more than any other trait.

The facilities on campus are good if not excellent. The dorms are nicely maintained as well as the grounds. The new arts center will soon be finished, and Von Liebig (RealBig) is a beautiful science center constructed a couple of years ago. However, there should be a new athletic center built because the present one is almost always reserved for athletes. I was frustrated many a time because I could not use the courts to play basketball during the winter due to indoor practices.

I’d never go somewhere else. I had my doubts at times, but I know I’d never learn as much somewhere else as I did here. I had the best professors who really cared and the most amazing advisors. The variety of classes you can choose from and the flexibility in requirements is wonderful. I’ve met most of the best friends I’ve ever had at Juniata. I had so many opportunities to get involved and do what I wanted to relax from work. The worst thing? Being an out-of-state student who didn’t want to go home surrounded by people who ran home at least one weekend a month. But I got over it.

As a basketball player, I’m probably biased here. The hoops games usually draw a decent and loyal crowd. Volleyball games draw a nice crowd, too. Home football games are well-attended. And even if the games are not well-attended, most of the school, at least to me, seems genuinely interested that our teams do well.

I Don't Know If I Want to Eat That?

A lot of the food tastes good but is very bad for you. Many times the quality is very low (tasty, but unhealthy). They have either a grab and go type of food located above the main cafeteria or the main cafeteria which is much like a buffet. There is a great salad bar and the cafeteria also provides you with many different types of meals, but they always have pizza and this gets repetitive. Many people dislike the cafeteria's food but eat it anyway because it's a place to see many friends and be social.

Language in Motion

My school's language department has a program called, "Language in Motion." It serves as a way for language majors and returning students from studying abroad to present experiences, difficulties, cultural differences to students at high schools around the area. It is important because it gives others an idea that certain countries are not always the way we generally view it. It also promotes awareness on the importance of studying abroad in general and how it can build you as a person! I plan on joining this program after my study abroad experience next school year!

Not Just About the Appearance, but More About What's Inside.

Not only are the people at this college classy in style, they have a lot to offer with their personality. Not only are the people good looking but they have a lot of confidence, and that helps to make their appearance much more attractive than many girls/guys from other schools.

You'll Need a Car

Huntingdon has a lot of neat things to do and places to explore, but most of your necessities like Walmart will require you to be able to drive. The people are friendly, and I've more than once been given a lift to the train station from a complete stranger.
