The rules are very reasonable. Because we are a private school we do not have to worry about the police on our campus. Our school is strict about alcohol and drugs but they always allow the student to explain themselves and have a fair chance to not get in trouble. If you don't get caught you are fine. If you do the first time with alcohol you are put on probation which isn't bad.

The police force is almost non existent and since it is such a small school, the security office is small as well. The RA's will do their duty and write you up if you are caught drinking, drunk, or smoking in the dorms, but it is only an incentive to be careful. First time offenders are not punished too severely, and you will never get in trouble if you call the ambulance or the police for a friend in need, even if you yourself are drunk.

The school is very strict towards the sexual misconduct policy and the honor code. Despite some critics of the alcohol policy, the school is lenient towards underage drinkers. Although some students find it unbearable, they are pretty lucky the school does not have direct contact with the city policy like other universities do. The school is not lenient towards the use of illegal drugs as well the sexual misconduct policy and the honor code.

Liberal but Safe – K-College students get away with a lot more things than Western Michigan students when off campus. If parties are busted you are just told to leave. As far as strictness in the dorms, it all depends on the RA but the police is only called if kids aren't cooperative with the police and weed is involved. Punishment for underage drinking or drugs goes on a case by case basis.

So Strict – Administrators are so strict, to the point that many students think the college takes joy in seeking out students who break rules in order to punish them.
