The below comment I find a bit too critical and one sided. Yes, Kalamazoo College is a liberal arts school with many privilege caucasian students, but most liberal arts schools ARE. The fact is, we school is making huge attempts to increase diversity and for being a small campus we are extremely diverse compared other midwest liberal arts colleges. Many students of color are over defensive and frustrated which they are completely entitled too. There is a nuanced division between class and race at this school. When you combine so many demographics into a school that is known predominately in white suburban communities conflicts and uneasy tensions occur. But the school recognizes this, and the student body is much aware. There is Talk, activism and progress being made. At least theres this aspect of change occurring, and being a student of color myself im happy to be apart of it. The comment below dubbed this school a "white institution" I cannot disagree more. It is a diversifying institution that has a majority of caucasian students ( what institution doesn't?), but serves to no specific demographic. Blatant racism is extremely hard to come by and the truth is most of everybody is extremely welcoming and curious.
It comes down to perspective, when you are from LA , you will perceive this school as lacking diversity. If you are from a white suburban community you will be overwhelmed by the diversity. these are honest POV's from student body.

Although the campus is becoming diversify, once they bring people of different ethnic and race backgrounds they do not know what to do with them once they are here. Such as not having resources for them. There are many people who are racist to minorities on campus but yet deny that racism exist. Kalamazoo is a predominantly white institution with many privileged students who do not want student of color in this institution.

This year, the number of international students increases a lot. Also, although there are a lot of whites, being a minority doesn't change how people here treat others. The acceptance here at K is really high and welcoming.

They are trying and it shows but we don't have an extensive amount of diversity and all the students I've talked to who are minorities have strong feelings regarding K's inability to make them feel welcomed and like they are part of the community.

Very Diverse – Kalamazoo College has one of the best study abroad programs not just with outgoing students, but with incoming students as well. They have a lot of diversity in race and country of origin. One year I lived with a girl from Spain, France, and China all in one suite. The language programs have students every year help out that are from the countries that speak the languages. There are still have a lot of white students but they have a ton of others as well.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
