Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For the first couple months, the quantity of doughnuts, ice cream, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch at your fingertips in the campus dining centers is dizzying. You could make a meal of desserts alone. Not that you’d need to—the fruit table and salad bar are just as extensive as the dessert menu. After the initial delirium, however, the selection turns monotonous. The Friday-night sundaes and Sunday-morning pancakes go from being phenomena to fixtures, and even the charm of fresh-baked pizza begins to fade when you’re eating it three nights a week.

In other respects, the dining scene is a curious conjunction of accommodation and aggravation. Dashers—a take-out option for students on the go—is an enormous convenience, but the early closure of most dining centers at 6:30 p.m. is an equally enormous hassle, particularly for students with night classes. The “Change-Ups!” program, a service which offers students an unconventional dinner choice each week, means well, but the lines it draws are so long that the novelty is hardly worth the wait. And while certain menu items are nothing short of transcendent, some of the vegetarian options are unappealing enough to spur the most orthodox vegan to sacrilege.

Availability and Quality.

The availability of food across campus is exceptional. I have never been disappointed by a meal at any location on campus as of yet. While it may not be restaurant quality all the time, it definitely is great for college students on a budget!

Chains and Local

There are a lot of places around campus. Tons of fast food chains mixed in with local favorites. The dining halls are incredible and so worth the price that you pay.
