Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As any freshman who has ever awoken to the muffled thuds of a 2:30 a.m. hallway baseball game will testify, it’s not where you end up that matters so much as the company you keep. Upperclassmen, having discovered forms of entertainment in which alcohol does not play a central role, typically make the least obstreperous neighbors. Lamentably, because so many vacate the dorms after freshmen year, they’re also the least common. Nevertheless, if peace and a pre-dawn bedtime are important to you, listing Putnam and Van Zile as your top preferences on the housing application is strongly advised: the third- and fourth-year residence hall returnees, scarce as they are, tend to gravitate there.

Though not as significant as the “who,” the “where” remains a sticking point. Take Marlatt, for instance, which is not so much a dormitory as a six-story boys’ locker room. Goodnow is cleaner and kinder, but the manner in which entire floors will sit down to dinner and discuss nothing but statics or bioclimatic design borders on the cultish. Living situations in Moore, Haymaker, West, and Boyd are hit or miss, subject to the floormate factor.

Dorm Life

Living on campus at KSU has its pros and cons. Since the dorms are in the middle of campus it only takes 10 minutes or less to get to class and you don't have to waste gas. Also, the dining service is great. A lot of variety in food choices. Disadvantage is the roommate situation. The rooms aren't the biggest and if you get put with someone random it could end up being a hassle.

Go Coed. Every Time.

The safest dorms to send yourself to, girls, are not the all girls dorms. The lack of male interaction creates crazy people who need an outlet. So conservative mothers, just know that Ford is no haven. Boyd would be a better option. If you're looking for fun, think Moore. Quiet hours in a wonderful lobby surrounded by upperclassmen? Putnam. Dirty, filthy, classic freshman experience? Haymaker. If you're looking for a suite, you'll be in a basement somewhere, but Putnam has some excellent rooms. Marlatt is pretty boring, and Goodnow is another Moore- just remember you're on the other end of the inhabited universe.

Dorms/Apartments

living in the dorms and the apartments are ok. im kind of back and forth staying with the bf at his dorms and my apartment. somethings are a little over priced but other than that they have good areas for students to live and they try to keep housing for us close to campus.
