Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

After 9:30 a.m., finding an open computer in Hale Library is a notion only slightly less laughable than finding a parking space alongside it, but once you learn where to look (i.e., anywhere except Hale), access ceases to be a problem. The Kramer and Derby Academic Resource Centers feature regularly depopulated labs, as do both Dickens and Justin Hall. Given the University’s current crusade for campus-wide wireless connection, available terminals in Hale may become a reality by the end of the decade.

For the most part, K-State’s web services are as efficient as the connection they run on. The campus e-mail system, its periodic catatonia notwithstanding, is navigable and efficient. The same goes for the K-State Access Technology System (KATS), a virtual marketplace that allows students to view grades, pay bills, and enroll in classes. As accessible as the computing facilities and online services are, coming to campus equipped with a personal computer is advisable. Packing a printer wouldn’t be a bad idea either if you can swing it financially. If you can’t, it’s not the end of the world; just brace yourself for a lot of late-night lab runs.

KSU Computers

The most computers available for student use are at the library, but most of them are taken on a regular basis. Macs and PCs are available. Every student gets $10 of printing on their ID at the beginning of each semester. The housing network is slow in the dorms, but wifi is available around campus. You should have your own laptop.

I have not had to use the university computers that much this semester. Many of my friends have and are satisfied with the results.

Instant Use of the System

They have a lot of computers in the library and the labs available to people at all times. I have no problem ever getting on a computer when I need it. The wifi is really quick and not usually slow at all.
