College Prowler Take
Illegal drugs at K-State are a little like international students. You know they’re out there, and with some effort you can track them down, but their presence is barely perceptible. Keep in mind, too, that “drugs,” in central Kansas vernacular, translates as “marijuana.” On those exceedingly rare occasions when reports of students busted for something harder turn up, it’s a good bet they’re from Kansas City area.
And legal drugs? Alcohol is without a doubt the intoxicant of choice on campus. Your RA may not drink, but rest assured at least half your floor does. Lady Wildcats, as a rule, are not especially heavy drinkers, but their male counterparts more than make up for their prudence. Tobacco use, though far less common, is again seen more frequently among men than women. In recent years, however, cigarette smoking has taken a downturn across the board. After nearly a third of the college confessed to the habit in 2001, the current usage rate hovers around 15 percent. Which may seem like a considerable chunk until you take a look at the alcohol numbers, where you find it’s 15 percent of students who don’t use.

I’ve never seen any drugs on campus, and it has never been an issue, although I would know where to go to find drugs. |

I am sure, quite sure, people smoke pot. I don’t know too much about people shooting up or snorting anything. Of course it is something that happens anywhere, but it isn’t heard of that much here. |

I like to pretend that this doesn’t happen on campus, but I know it does. I have overheard people talking about smoking weed and doing other things, but I have never seen it first hand. |
