Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Among the University’s most redeeming qualities is the fact that, once the novelty of on-campus food begins to stale, there’s no danger of going hungry for lack of alternatives. Price-wise, the options span the spectrum from the good and cheap (Pita Pit, Gumby’s Pizza) to the good and expensive (Coco Bolos, Hibachi Hut) to the really good and really expensive (the posh downtown joint Harry’s). The scope in cuisine is slightly less extensive. Both egg foo young and empanadas con queso are relatively easy to come by, but the absence of Middle Eastern and Indian eateries is a shame.

Where to go hinges as much on attendant circumstances as cuisine preference. If you’ve got a chem test to cram for but would prefer social distraction to actual studying, you can’t do better than the Bluestem Bistro. If you have a night to kill and company to kill it with, Bob’s is your bag. If your parents have dropped in for a visit, it would be remiss of you not to wheedle a dinner at Harry’s out of them. On the whole, cost shouldn’t constitute too formidable an obstacle: assuming you’re not banqueting on caviar and chardonnay, eating off campus is reasonably affordable. The only significant drawback is that many of the major restaurants are some distance from campus. Woe to the wheelless! Woe, and alternately, Pizza Shuttle.

Dining

The off campus dining is typical for a community the size of Manhattan. They have all the chain restaurants plus a few really unique places when you want to get away from dorm food.

Excellent Dining Opportunity

The Student Union offers a wide variety of restaurants at a convenient mid campus location. The atmosphere is clean and cozy, and the prices are reasonable. Having so many dining options is wonderful if you spend a lot of time on campus.
