Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Though Kent State is a large university, it doesn’t mean professors ignore students, but it does mean that students will have to take the initiative if they really want to excel in their academics. The majority of freshman classes are taught in large lecture halls, with more in-depth classes being taught in smaller, more manageable class sizes. Despite popular belief, most professors speak English as their first language. The lower-division classes are mostly taught by graduate students, and nearly all of the upper-division classes are taught by PhDs. Students really won’t dive into their major classes until sophomore and junior years, after they’ve finished their liberal arts requirements. Many of the lower-division classes aren’t too difficult, and students don’t have too many problems balancing their social lives with their academic lives.

Most Kent State professors really know what they’re talking about and have real-life experience in their areas of study. This means Kent State students will have a large network of contacts, which is a plus when looking for those dreaded internships. Many of the programs at Kent State are some of the best in the state and are starting to become more selective to increase their prestige. Far too many Kent State students slip by with average grades and drunken weekends, so those who put a little extra work into their academics will find they have a definite advantage.

Interesting Professors, but Not a Lot of Variety

I'm a political science major with a concentration in international relations. I have had very good professors throughout my college life in this area, however the topics which they offer for this major I feel are limited. This is a fairly broad topic, so I think there could be more offered in the area of international studies.

Most professors are nice and will help you with the understanding of class materials. All of them are deeply knowledgeable about the courses they teach.

Veterinay Technician Program

At Kent State Tuscarawas, the vet tech program is very difficult. The class only begins with 24 students which is nice for small lab sizes! You have to take all the required courses at a high workload if you wish to finish in the intended time of two years. You have to take the max amount of credit hours allowed and many cannot handle the work load. I am now in my second semester of my first year and we are now down to 13 students due to failure and dropout rates!!! Although it is a difficult program, after every class you leave feeling like you know more now then you did before! I have learned a lot in one semester and if it is something you are passionate about, you will succeed!
