Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Unless you live in the Kent area, you’ll probably be living in the dorms your first two years of college. No matter how many horror stories you hear about the dorms, you will probably enjoy your stay, even if you add one or two of your own tales to the bunch. Most of the “better” dorms are reserved for upperclassmen, and rightfully so. Some of the less prestigious buildings don’t have air conditioning, so those used to climate control may want to pack a fan or suffer through the hot first month of class. Many consider the underclassmen dorms as a sort of initiation into Kent State and college life.

Most of the freshmen live in Small Group, which is unofficially called “Small World.” This is because the freshmen dorms are clustered together on the far end of campus and even have their own cafeteria, so in a way, it’s like its own small universe. These dorms aren’t necessarily known for their cleanliness, but students residing here will definitely meet a lot of new freshmen and make some quick friends. So don’t fret if you’re stuck here; you will move on to bigger and better things your sophomore year. If you can afford it, try to get into the Centennial dorms. They’re the nicest and cleanest dorms on campus.

Decent Dorm Life

The Kent campus has nice dorms and I was very surprised at how nice the freshmen dorms are. There is a market in the lobby, computer labs, and a lot of study areas. I am looking forward to the living conditions improving though each year.

Kent State on Campus Housing

Living on campus at Kent State has it's pro's and con's. There is enough fun and freedom, but what I really dislike is that we have quiet hours. Security walk the floors patroling them. That is what I dislike.

Depends on What You Choose

The dorms at Kent State are good depending on which you choose. The Honors College and the Centennial Courts are very nice and new, but other dorms are better for making friends.
