Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

A breakdown of students by race and ethnicity can be found on the University's website, but statistics will not tell you much about diversity among students. Being a state school, Kent State is relatively affordable compared to private colleges––especially for in-state students. In regards to diversity, this means that a wide array of socioeconomic backgrounds are represented on campus. And though most students come from Ohio, there's a good amount of students from different regions of the country and world. Students of every ethnicity are well-represented, and religious groups all have existing outlets on campus.

In short, Kent State is diverse. Students of every creed, color, and background will doubtlessly find others like themselves. However, what is more notable than this is the amount to which racial and social distinctions become irrelevant. In their time on campus, open-minded students will be able to establish friendships and connections with a vast range of people, of both familiar and unfamiliar origins.

Very Diverse Community

In my short time at KSU, I have discovered the diverse community that makes up the campus. I am fascinated to see the broad spectrum of individuals daily on the campus. I believe KSU fosters independece, individuality and tolerance in all who attend.I do not think KSU caters to any one race. I think KSU is open to "all".

Diversity

There is much diversity at Kent. Where ever you go you see that there is a large variety of different cultures and backgrounds rolled together to make our campus a family. Not one person's story is the same and it is very interesting to get to know people who are different from you.

Facts

Gay Pride

The LGBTQ community isn't overwhelming, but it definitely holds a presence on Kent State's campus. Fusion, Kent State's LGBTQ magazine, rated Kent State as one of the five most gay-friendly universities in Ohio. The meetings for PRIDE! Kent, the university's LGBTQ group, are well-attended, too.

Political Activity

Though Kent State's past has seen the campus more politically active than it is at present, there are certainly groups of students keen on voicing their political opinions. Branches of College Democrats and College Republicans are available for the party-aligned, and the Kent Political Union provides an outlet for those who simply want some measure of political involvement. The campus definitely leans liberal, but conservative students certainly have a voice.

Economic Status

The overwhelming majority of students are middle class. There are certainly exceptions, but most of the time socioeconomic distinctions aren't blatantly obvious.

Most Common Religions

Christian denominations are the most prevalent, but there are also strong Muslim and Jewish presences on campus.

Minority Clubs on Campus

There are many minority student groups on campus. Most ethnic and religious groups are represented, and if not, student organizations are relatively easy to start.
