Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The new buildings on campus are pretty, and the older buildings are, well, not so pretty. But most likely, you won’t be in the older buildings too much anyway. The University seems to be making an effort to keep its buildings up-to-date as much as it can afford by building many new residence halls, including the new Honors College dormitories. Some of the nicest buildings on campus are the Centennial Court, the Rec Center, and the Eastway Complex. There are also new brick walkways in the heart of campus, which makes it very easy on the eyes. It’s hard to go through a semester without seeing yellow construction cones or yellow tape sectioning off a campus improvement.

Anything you could possibly need is sold on campus, including groceries (though the fresh produce is lacking), school supplies, select electronic equipment (there is an Apple store in the Art Building that offers student discounts on iPods and the like), and even toiletries. You’ll probably want to walk or take the bus to a drug store or Target for some of your other shopping, but you could literally spend the entire semester without needing to leave campus. There is a bowling alley, arcade, and bar available to students, and if you’re ever bored, the Rec Center is always a great place to go with friends to swim, run, lift weights, or play racquetball. The one great thing about this campus is the abundance of places to occupy your time.

They dorms are very well maintained by the cleaning staff. The academic centers and library are very clean as well. The outside however, could use more ground keepers in order to clean up all of the cigarette butts all over the ground.

Cunningham

I like the facilities in Cunningham with BSCI and BMS. The professors are willing to help graduate students with their research by allowing them to use their facilities and offer help when they can. As a first year graduate student I've found them to be very helpful, but I wish the building itself was renovated. There are no lounges save for a few chairs at the end of hallways and TA offices are crammed 12 to a room with 6 desks. A renovated and updated building would be greatly appreciated.

General Campus Classrooms

Classrooms are very nice with a good atmosphere. Some are way nicer then other but almost have enough room for each student to have space to do their own thing

Favorite Things To Do

Because Kent State is such a large campus, there is never a lack of things to do. The University is usually good about hosting special programs for students throughout the week. Most of the daytime activities of the student body are very mellow; many prefer to work out at the Rec or grab a snack with friends while waiting for their next class. The football and basketball games are always a big hit, as loads of students cram onto shuttle buses in their finest blue and gold gear. The Daily Kent Stater is always a good place to look for the goings-on on campus.

Sit down for a cup of coffee and read the Daily Kent Stater at Jazzman’s, tackle the indoor rock wall or go for a jog at the Rec, go skating at the Ice Arena Recreation Rink, or sit out in Risman Plaza by the fountain while waiting for your next class. At night, you can hang out down in the Rathskeller and sing karaoke, shoot some pool, or watch sports.
