Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Many would agree that the most attractive sector of campus is Front Campus, which is comprised of the oldest buildings, most dating back to the University's earliest days. This is undoubtedly the most collegiate area, with its columned facades and rolling green space. Students frequent "Blanket Hill," named for its appeal to students wanting to read, sketch, or nap on blankets amidst the trees.

Some newer buildings are not quite as charming, but they are, again, newer. This means that they are clean and relatively up-to-date, a fact that is perhaps most appreciated in recently constructed or renovated dorms. The student center, the recreation center, and the library are utilized by a great number of students, and offer a range of amenities. The University has recently become very committed to maintaining and updating facilities, and the last few years have seen a wave of renovations around campus. Whether or not particular students care more about aesthetics than the average, it's certain that they will find themselves at times very grateful for the practical amenities offered. Overall, the charm that is sometimes traded for clean and functional facilities is more than made up for in the beautiful green spaces, and in the town of Kent itself.

Not Much in Terms of Facilities

I attend one of Kent State's regional campuses. Actually I have attended classes at two of them: Salem and East Liverpool campuses, however, my degree will be focused at the East Liverpool campus. They have a nice book store in East Liverpool. The bookstore in Salem just got remodeled though and is a lot bigger and nicer. Salem and East Liverpool's libraries are quite small, yet there are many areas deemed "quiet study" areas that are nice to lounge in and get your studying done without anyone being bothersome. Both campuses offer more than one computer lab and they are equipped with many computers. Not once have I found it a problem trying to get a computer. I would say East Liverpool has the larger amount of computers though. Salem campus has a nice big lecture hall that you never have trouble finding a seat in, however I myself am not a fan of a class that is so big that it requires a lecture hall. As far as gyms go... they don't really have any, atleast I don't believe they do. I am not much pf an athletic person. I got to school, attend my classes then usually have to go home and go to work. All in all I would rate Salem/East Liverpool campuses an average grade of C+. They aren't bad campuses, but they could definitely use a little more upgrading.

Nice Rec, Lots of Food

The rec- center is nice and offers several options for work out routines. There is something for everyone, including the ice skating ring.

There are also lots of options for food on campus, Rosies is excellent.

Awesome Library

The library has a large area for studying on each of its 12 floors. There are also plenty of resources and spots to nap.

Favorite Things To Do

There is never a lack of things to do on Kent State's campus. The University and student organizations host a variety of special programs and events for students throughout the week, including, but not limited to, comedians, guest lectures, film screenings, and more. Most of the day-to-day activities are very mellow; many like to work out at the rec or grab a snack in the Hub with friends while waiting for their next class. Some students frequent "Blanket Hill."
