Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The majority of the house parties—and parties in general—are hosted by fraternities and sororities. They’re a freshman’s dream come true: free beer and attractive drunk people everywhere. Not that you’ll be given good free beer, but it’s beer nonetheless. Many females have horror stories about going to parties alone, so it’s advisable to bring along a friend or friends who can make sure you’re safe. Frat parties are probably the number one event that end in hookups, so if that’s not your scene, you’ll probably want to stay away.

Greeks are everywhere. It’s impossible to go anywhere without seeing Greek letters plastered across someone’s chest or forehead. For some, mainly other Greeks, this may be a good thing, but for the majority of the non-Greeks, this can get annoying. Because the Greek community is so tight-knit, it’s almost a given that any member who runs for a position on campus, whether it’s Homecoming king or student senator, will automatically be elected, regardless of his or her qualifications. This doesn’t mean that Greeks don’t make friends outside of their community. It will be hard to complete your run at Kent State without befriending at least one Sigma Nu or Delta Zeta. Most of them act just like everyone else, with a few “elite Greeks” giving the rest a bad rap.

I am not a sister to any sorority and I am not that involved in the Greek life, but it is popular here at KSU. I have attened some frat parties and they are all welcoming, if you are not involved with the Greek life it does not mean that you are out of the loop.

Greek Life

Greek life at Kent State is great. There are only 6 sororities but there are 20+ fraternities. They are known for partying. Almost everyone at Kent parties, so the fraternities are well known. Greek life hosts many on-campus events each year. Greek housing is available and desirable for those involved. There is no conflict whatsoever between Greeks and non-Greeks.

The greek students are very active on campus and do many fundraisers to help the needy and others. They are seen as good people and they have their own houses on the edge of campus.
