Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Much has been said about the "hookup culture" on college campuses. Kent State is no exception to this trend, evolution, triumph, or travesty (depending on how you look at it). However, mourning the dating game is not in order. There are plenty of students in, seeking, or open to exclusive relationships. In short, dating is not dead. The romantic and sexual lives of students vary depending on their interests. Because of the diversity of the student population, it’s difficult to paint a picture of a typical male or female Kent State student. Current stereotypes aren’t definitive, and the classics may no longer be applicable. She owns at least one pair of leggings, maybe even jeggings, and he’ll wear that sweater from Mom––if not because he appreciates it, then because he knows the ladies do. And that’s about as standard as it gets. You’ll find many types of girls and just as many types of guys, because again, the student population is diverse. 

It may be a notable statistic that there are more female students than male students (it's about a 3-to-2 ratio), but with as large a number of students as there are at Kent State, that fact is not as noticeable as one might expect.

Athletics

Kent State has many athletes, the Baseball team is one of the best in Ohio, Basketball and Football do not compare as of now, but I'm sure they will in the future.

Give Us More to Do

There is a very good ratio of girls to guys at our school. The only thing that I would complain about is the lack of social activities to do besides partying at the frat houses. Not my scene.

Greatness

The people of Kent State University are great! Generally speaking, the students are very nicely dressed and groomed and are hard working students, which makes the overall academic atmosphere fantastic. When a group of people come together for a common purpose, in this case to learn, I believe that purpose will be fulfilled. Kent State is an amazing school, and the people here make it even better. Additionally, there is somebody for everyone; there are girls and guys of every type, and I am confident everybody will meet somebody special at Kent State!

Social Scene

There is a mix of social options to suit the diverse interests of the student body. There are parties every weekend and plenty of them. Most first-years get caught up in the excitement of the party scene, but increasingly, older students tend to favor the bar scene or small parties with a few friends. Whatever your interests, there are things to do and plenty of people to meet.

Hookups or Relationships?

Most of freshman year is dedicated to hooking up, or trying to, but by the end of their second year, many have started to settle down. Some will continue to hook up for much longer, and some start serious relationships much earlier. In short, there's a healthy mix of hookups and relationships, and those looking for either should be able to find what they seek.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

The general sentiment of Kent State students is to put partying above schoolwork any night, so the parties are where you’ll want to cruise to hook up with a hottie. The older crowd heads out to the bars downtown, while the younger students look for a good house party. Many of the area clubs are open to under-agers, so these are another possibility for meeting that special someone. Clubs and social organizations on campus are typically very large and will give you a large pool to choose from. The Greeks never seem to be single for long. Signing up for some of the classes at the Rec could also open up some doors.

Dress Code

Style on campus is diverse, to say the least. Girls either have their own unique way of dressing, or the standard leggings/UGGs/North Face combination that's pervaded many a campus. For guys, jeans are pretty standard, but the fits vary from baggy to slim and then some. Whether you want to blend in or stand out, there's ample opportunity to do so at Kent.
