Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is a strong police and security presence at Kent State, but it makes students feel safe rather than paranoid. Late at night, it is almost impossible to walk across campus without seeing one of the student security guards in their bright yellow shirts. Most of them aren’t very strict and are generally friendly. Many times, students will be warned, rather than reprimanded, for their actions. It is also important to note that the penalties the campus security guards can impose are far less severe than those of the Kent State Police Department. They typically don’t go out of their way to bust students, but if they see someone causing a big disturbance, or doing something obviously illegal, they will move in. Kent residents are not afraid to call the police on students who are disturbing them, so stay away.

There are very few paths at Kent State that aren’t well-lit, and most of these are shortcut paths that shouldn’t be used late at night anyway. There are blue emergency phones everywhere, and there are few, if any, crimes committed against students on campus. The city and campus are generally safe, so students should have no worries in this department.

Kent State Safety

At Kent State University a way of contacting security is always available. There is even an escort service. Although there has been crime in Kent, it usually occurs on the peripheries or far from the campus.

Absolutely Out of Harm's Way

On the campus of Kent State University I feel safe and protected. In parking lots there are emergency blue lights that if you need the police they will come as fast as possible. Also, within bus stops they have emergency call boxes incase of an emergency. I always see security patrolling the campus which makes you feel protected. Finally, all the dorms are locked in order to prevent nonresidents from entering. Overall I always feel very save on this campus.

A for Safety

On the Kent State Campus I have never worried about my own or others safety. There are security vehicles in the parking lot making rounds daily and other security officers inside the classroom building. There is not much crime action to begin with, but these gentlemen are a constant reminder that we are all safe.
