Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The most notable aspect of parking a car at Kent State is that anyone can do it—even freshmen. First-year students will have to leave their car two miles away at the stadium during the week, though it's easy to hop on a bus going that way if you desperately need your vehicle on some Tuesday afternoon. On campus, finding a parking spot can be a struggle. Meters are frequently occupied, and the most convenient lots are inevitably crowded. Parking illegally will almost certainly earn you a ticket, as parking enforcement personnel are constantly on the prowl for expired meters and out-of-place permits.

Once a parking spot is secured, it's usually more convenient to maneuver by foot instead of driving from class to class. The campus lends itself to pedestrian traffic, as most parking lots and roadways are located on the edges of campus. In the winter months, many off-campus dwellers drive to campus for obvious reasons, but during the fairer seasons, most opt to walk or bike their way to class. The biggest advantage offered by an automobile is easier access to nearby cities, but many find that a car is simply unnecessary. The University and its surroundings are all accessible enough by foot, bike, or public transportation that having your own car can easily become a bit of a hassle.

Parking Is Horrible

My biggest complaint about KSU ,and the fact that I commute, is the horrible parking. Incoming Freshman must park either at Dix Stadium or Eastway which is way off campus. Then you have to take a bus to campus! I still have to pay over $100 to park! You can only get closer once you move up the "academic scale" ie freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. The buses don't always run on schedule either and when it snows forget about being on time to class. KSU definintely caters to on campus living...not very commuter friendly. They need parking DECKS!

Horrible

Depending on the time of day, it's hard to find a parking spot. You need a parking pass for the lots on campus. If you park in the wrong lot, parking services will find you and ticket you.

Getting a Parking Permit

Permits are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply as early as possible for permits, because the best ones sell out quickly. If your desired permit is sold out, you can opt to be wait-listed until a spot becomes available. Options abound for one-day visitors. Overnight visitors to the residence halls can obtain a free permit valid in certain lots between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays, and during all hours of the weekend.

Did You Know? If appealed, a vehicle's first ticket is usually voided as a courtesy by Parking Services.
