Absolutely Out of Harm's Way

On the campus of Kent State University I feel safe and protected. In parking lots there are emergency blue lights that if you need the police they will come as fast as possible. Also, within bus stops they have emergency call boxes incase of an emergency. I always see security patrolling the campus which makes you feel protected. Finally, all the dorms are locked in order to prevent nonresidents from entering. Overall I always feel very save on this campus.

Fun If You Know Where to Go

If your over the age of 21 then there are plenty of bars and good hangout spots. For the underaged population then you have to know where to go. There are plenty of frat houses but they tend to be overcrowded. Make lots of friends and find a more private party

Off Campus Housing Is the Better Choice.

The off campus housing at KSU is always the better choice because of the expensive dorm prices. All of the off campus locations are cheaper, they provide more privacy as well as more freedom. They are all still close to the university

The Girls and Guys Are Rude.

When you walk around campus you'll see many girls and guys walking around campus. The guys are really disrespectful and the girls are so rude and needy. This campus is full of gossip and rumors and it truly reminds me of high school. Overall the freshman and sophomore girls and guys are really childish!

Even Freshman Dorms Are Nice!

I really love my dorm, I live in Korb Hall which is right across the street from Eastway Center. Korb has both air conditioning and private bathrooms. It is coed by room so if you are female, your neighbors may be males, but it's a good way to make friends. The rooms aren't too small and there are a lot of ways to organize them to maximize space. Dorms in Eastway aren't bad either, they may not have air conditioning, but you really only need air for the first month of school. The rooms are a good size and have plenty of good ways to configure furniture. The only negative of the dorms is that they are not always the cleanest buildings, but they're really not that bad overall.

Always Have a Parking Pass

This year due to the increased enrollment, it has been more difficult to park on campus during busy times, so arrive to campus early. As for Parking Services, they love giving out those tickets (your first one each year is free), but try to park legally as much as possible. One nice thing is that usually after 5pm until Monday they do not ticket in most lots.

Many Apartments

There are many apartments and houses to rent off-campus and more are being built! Sometimes the apartments are further from campus and a car would be nice but the PARTA bus system does service most of the apartment complexes that are far away. Costs are relative and sometimes high but living off-campus is a great experience. The Commuter and Off-Campus Student Organization (COSO) provides great information and services for students interested in living off-campus.

Kent - Such a Nice Town

Kent is a wonderful little town that offers a lot of different things for students and locals to do. If you want a break from studying to just enjoy the spring and fall weather you can go down to the Cuyahoga River were there is a nice trail along the water. Acorn Alley, just off of Main Street, is a fun place to do a little shopping and enjoy some ice cream at the Arctic Squirrel or lunch/dinner at Pita Pit or the sushi restaurant. There are plenty of great bars downtown for those of you who are 21. Music is not a shortage here in Kent; there is the Kent Stage which always has concerts going on. Every year the University and the Kent Stage host the Folk Festival too. Scribbles is another great downtown place; a coffee shop with a local feel and great treats and drinks!

Lots of Choices!

Kent is a very nice town and offers a variety of off-campus restaurants. There are a sprinkling of fast-food places along Route 59 just next to campus: Five Guys, Wendy's, Continental Grill, Taco Bell, etc. Downtown offers an even bigger variety! There's Ray's place which is a local favorite, Water Street Tavern/Cajun Dave's is another favorite, Taco Tantos is a fun Mexican create-your own food place, the Pufferbelly is great for family dinners, Franklin St. Deli is a delicious choice for homemade sandwiches. Everything is reasonably priced for the excellent food you get!

Very Safe

Kent State's campus is very safe. Yes there has been crime in the past but it is a large university and things happen. I often walk back to my dorm late at night and have never felt unsafe. Campus security offers escorts which is a nice comfort. Kent State as well as Kent police are always at hand if any trouble arises.

Northeast Ohio Weather

If you know anything about Northeast Ohio, you know that we have some funky weather. Autumn is beautiful, cool and campus is absolutely gorgeous. Winter can be a little bit of a pain but its nothing that you can't get used to. Campus is windy and VERY snowy in the winter months but we have buses that run all over campus and we do get a decent amount of snow days! So, thats always fun. Spring is average, cool weather, sun/rain. Summer is hot and sunny. :)

It's Ohio

It is Ohio so it isn't uncommon for it to be 85 and sunny one day but 70 and raining the next day. There are some intense snowstorms but the campus is pretty good about cancelling classes when they need to. There are some really nice days when everyone hangs out outside.

I Lived in Leebrick

At first I thought they were ridiculously small. I couldn't believe how cramped it was but as time went on I saw people fight with their roommates and I really started to appreciate my little cozy single room. And it doesn't hurt that there was the amenity of having Rosie's diner downstairs.

Knowledge

I have had a very good experience with most of my professors here. They all have a wide knowledge of the subject that they are teaching, some just do not know how to relay it to students in the best way. The workload for my major is pretty heavy, but I feel like I have learned and grown a lot with the experience.

While there may be the occasional disagreeable or off-task professor, most instructors at KSU push their students to excel and are available to help students to that end. Professors tend to really get to know their students; I even invited one of mine to my wedding!

The workload can be intense, especially if you get a good professor. But, as state above, they will drive you to your best and help you get there. The professors want you to succeed in their class, but not at the expense of their curriculum. It's a healthy balance.

Parta Bus!

The Kent campus offers PARTA busing from parking lots to buildings on campus. It is very easy and fast to get from one part of campus to another by using the buses. It is very convenient, except not always reliable.

Public Transportation Is Decent

Public transportation on campus good. Buses run usually from 6a.m. till midnight each day and will stop many times. Timing isn't always the best, but for the most part it works out. Taxis off campus are cheap for getting to the bars, and buses around town are pretty efficient.

I'm not Greek, but I do know many greek people. Greeks aren't portrayed very well, but working with the student government, I have found that many of them are the best of people! So out-going and really trying to work for the mass of the university, thinking about everyone and all kinds of different cultures and ethnicities. Very nice people!!

Nursing Becoming Quite the Challenge

Kent State University's Nursing program is much more difficult than one might think. It takes a great deal of persistence, dedication, and time to make it into the Nursing program. It is a very well-known and prestigious program to be apart of.
