Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Kent State's campus lends itself to foot traffic. All academic buildings, residence halls, and facilities are no more than a 10-minute walk apart. The SRWC (Student Recreation and Wellness Center) is the one exception to this rule; depending on where you are coming from, it can take 15 or 20 minutes to walk there. During the warmer months, many choose to begin their workouts with a warm-up run to the SRWC, but the distance poses a minor inconvenience during the snow-ridden winters. The city of Kent is especially bicycle-friendly, and pedaling is arguably the most enjoyable means of transportation. There are bike racks everywhere, and though the roadway has no dedicated bike lanes, sidewalks abound. In addition, the University offers a service dubbed "Flashfleet," which allows students to check out city bikes for the day from various locations around campus. Oftentimes, biking is more accessible and efficient than car travel, and the environmentally-minded will certainly appreciate your efforts.

The Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority (PARTA) provides busing options for those wishing to get around campus (free for students) or to neighboring cities (Cleveland or Akron only cost a couple of dollars). During football games, PARTA buses run continuously between the main part of campus and the football stadium. The buses are generally clean and safe, and interested students can even become bus drivers. For its size, Kent State is very accessible and easy to navigate. Having a car on campus can be convenient for longer ventures, but local excursions are best made on foot or by bike, and the surrounding town and nearby cities are equally as accessible thanks to readily available public transportation.

Buses Are a Great Option

Campus buses take students to any location on campus for free. The buses run every 6-12 minutes; therefore, you do not have a long wait.

Use It

The bus system is pretty convenient. They have lots and they're almost always out minus a few hours early in the morning. You can call and request to be picked up at a certain place. Its free for students. They travel to local neighboring communities. Great way to get to Walmart or pick up your car at the Stadium.
