College Prowler Take
The one saving grace for the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority (PARTA) is the fact that it offers cheap off-campus routes (most are only $1–$3). You can get a ride to Chapel Hill Mall, Tower City (Cleveland’s largest mall), and other locations that would make fun day trips if you decide to blow off class. Most people typically never need to take the buses off campus, because nearly everyone has a car. It’s probably faster and more convenient to bug your roommate or friends for a ride than it is to try and take the bus, but if you can’t, it’s there for you.
Before the University outsourced its bus system, the buses really weren’t that bad. But after PARTA took over and “streamlined” the bus system, things seem to be less convenient. Bus routes have been cut and condensed; it could take up to 30 minutes to take the bus to class when it would only take less than 10 to walk. Sometimes, it’s nice to get up early and take the bus when it’s raining—if there’s room. Rainy and bitterly cold days are when most Kent State students suck it up and huddle together at the various bus stops. Yet again, you may be better off just trudging through the elements and going to class by foot.

PARTA Bus System
A-
The PARTA Bus System is really convenient. Sometimes the busses run a little late, but usually they come every 6-12 minutes. There are a lot of different busses, that take you to different place, on and off campus.

The bus system is never on time. It's useful if it randomly stops in front of you, but it's just easier and more reliable to walk to your destination than trust PARTA.

If you want to get somewhere on time, walk. If it’s really cold out, you will be really cold waiting for the bus. They used to be more reliable before the University outsourced the bus service. The drivers are scary, and I sometimes feel like they’re going to hit someone. Most of the buses are really old. |

The buses are useful for people who don’t have their own form of transportation on campus, and while it’s slow, it’s reliable. |

I wouldn’t recommend using the bus to go from class to class, because you probably won’t get there on time. The buses aren’t reliable, though they say they are. |
