Facts

Interviews & Information Sessions

Open houses offer prospective students the opportunity to explore campus, as well as attend information sessions devised to answer any questions from prospective students and their families. Admissions counselors are available Monday through Friday during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open houses require reservations, which should be made at least two weeks in advance. Contact the Admissions Office at (800) 988-5368 for more information.

Campus Tours

Campus tours are available most weekdays and Saturdays, and consist of a 30-minute presentation followed by a 90-minute walking tour led by a current Kent State student. Prospective students are shown a variety of dormitories, campus dining locations, academic facilities, and other Kent State odds and ends. Space is limited, so advance registration is required. Visit www.kent.edu/admissions or call the Admissions Office at (800) 988-5368 to schedule a tour.

Did You Know? During your visit, you'll become acquainted with the black squirrels that have made their home on campus. Locals will be quick to point out that black squirrels are not native to Northeast Ohio. During the 1960s, a Kent State faculty member imported 10 black squirrels from Canada, and set them loose on campus as part of a biological experiment. The squirrels have since driven out the natural brown-haired squirrel population and set up domain around Kent State and the surrounding city. They are among the University's quirkiest features and have become an unofficial secondary mascot.
