Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Kenyon’s remote location and general affluence have not fostered a hard-core drug scene. This doesn't mean that there isn't any drug use on campus; pot and prescription drugs are popular. Pot is easy to find on campus, and many students indulge to de-stress. Students tend to smoke mostly on the weekends, when it won't interfere with other activities. Pot smoking also takes a back seat to the most popular drug on campus: alcohol. Parties with alcohol happen every week. Students are known to seriously overindulge, and binge drinking is becoming more popular. In general, students don't get in trouble for alcohol use, though.

Kenyon students are true geeks in that the most prevalent drug use probably comes around finals time. Ritalin and Adderall become two of the most sought-after items on campus, as students seek to enhance their study abilities and increase their grades. Hard drugs sometimes find users among the Kenyon community, but this is few and far in between. There generally isn’t any trouble with the law over such matters, since it isn't spoken about within the community. There isn’t a large amount of policing drug activity on campus, either. Generally, if students get caught, it’s for being stupid with their drug use (e.g., smoking pot in the dorm rooms and setting off the smoke alarm).

Binge Drinking Is a Weekend Routine

I'm not really into it so in hindsight I wish I hadn't come here. Also, if you don't like light beer you're out of luck because that's all frats serve, it's cheaper than diet coke.

Not Much of a Drug Scene

It's college, so there's marijuana, but beyond that it's just a handful of students in PEEPs or off on there own. In four years at Kenyon, I heard about but was never around drug use beyond pot. Around exams, some students would probably pay a good bit for adderall.

The Good Samaritan Policy

Alcohol at Kenyon is there if you want it, but also can be easily ignored.

Kenyon has the Good Samaritan policy- basically, if you call Campus Safety for a friend who is in overly intoxicated, neither you nor your friend get in trouble.
