Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Kenyon's social scene is based around drinking alcohol. Parties are held on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday for the most part, but there are smaller events throughout the week. Fraternities and sororities host many of the events on bigger party nights, making it a difficult scene to break into if you don't have any friends involved in Greek life. The larger parties are attended by a large part of campus, making it challenging to find something to do if sweaty beer-crazed dancing isn't your thing. Because there's not really much to do off campus, all drinking occurs on school grounds. Kenyon isn't a dry campus by any means. This ensures that students do not drink and drive, while keeping the students in a relatively small area.

For those who actually are of age, there are only a couple of places to exercise 21-and-up privileges: the Village Inn and the Gambier Grill (unofficially and more commonly known as “the Cove"). The Village Inn draws a large crowd when there is live music available, but the Cove remains the most popular among the upperclassmen—perhaps more out of tradition than for its ambience. The bar itself is a windowless room with dark concrete walls, decorated only by random street signs and beer placards. An occasional trip to Mount Vernon will suffice, if you get bored from the on-campus options, with Fiesta Mexicana being one of the most popular bars and restaurants in that area.

D3 Lifestyle

Parties at Kenyon are much better than at big universities. Everyone can get in, all booze is free, and nobody has to worry about bumping into "that guy" that ruins your night. Although it might be a small school, there are ample opportunities to party and have a good time. Never have I been bored on a weekend this year. As long as you have a fake, you can get into any local bar no matter how childish you might look or act.

Alcohol

Completely centered on drinking alcohol. If someone doesn't drink alcohol, they are left out and have nothing to do. Getting drunk is the main source of entertainment.

All Options on Campus

There's really only one bar in town, and it isn't too great. However, because this is the case everyone still goes there, and the people are what makes or breaks the night. People don't go off campus to party but that's nice because you get to see a lot of people and no one really worries about drinking and driving or getting a ride home.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

Gambier Grill & Pizza

Gambier Grill is an on-campus restaurant and bar where students cannot use their meal plans, but that doesn’t stop them from spending all of their free time (or free cash) there. This is probably the biggest Kenyon hangout, as far as the bar scene goes.

Village Inn

In addition to great food and drinks, the Village Inn has live music most weekends.

Flappers Bar & Grille

Flappers is both a bar and a restaurant. Students who love live music flock here to catch local and cover bands.

Mount Vernon

Banana Joe’s

Banana Joe’s is a local club—almost. The bar features a happy hour on Fridays, a karaoke night, and a dance floor. Even so, Banana Joe’s is usually an older hangout, and Kenyon students usually tire of the scene pretty quickly.

Fiesta Mexicana

Fiesta offers beer and margaritas, and that’s about it—they’re mostly a food service establishment, but the bar does get busy on weekend nights.
