Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Off-campus dining options are slim at Kenyon, not that it matters. All meals are included in tuition, and there are no meal plan options. The dining hall caters to all students' needs and is open almost any time you could conceivably want food. However, there are a few options “off” campus if the dining hall becomes boring. Middle Ground Café is located in the center of campus and is a great student hangout. There is no Starbucks for miles, so this is the coffee shop alternative. Serving coffee, panini, milkshakes, and burgers, it provides a welcome alternative to Peirce dining. Middle Ground employs students, so it has a warm collegiate atmosphere, too. Students often sit in the booths to write papers, study, and socialize.

Right down the street from Middle Ground is The Gambier Deli. With all-day breakfast, fresh soups, and sandwiches, this deli is a hit with any college student. The prices can be a little high, though, so it’s best to save it for a treat! Outside dining is popular in the fall and spring months, and students often linger for hours over good food and conversation. Other options within walking distance include the Kenyon Inn, and the VI (Village Inn). Both of these are pretty pricey (even more so than the deli), so students tend to drag their parents for a visit! The food at both is as good as can be expected in such a small town, but for gourmet dining, you’d be better off heading to Columbus. Nearby Mount Vernon offers other chain restaurant dining such as Ruby Tuesday, KFC, Taco Bell, and Wendy’s.

Few Options in the Village, Midwest Diners Off-Campus

One doesn't have many options in Gambier, as there are only 4 restaurants beside the student dining hall, which is delicious. Most students eat there for all of their meals. Middle Ground Cafe is a pretty hopping spot, and it's a good place to hang out. The Village Inn has decent food and a bar, but it's more of a treat. Really, if you want to eat out, you go to Mount Vernon, the neighboring city. You can eat Indian food at Henry's, which has Sunday student discounts, Mexican food at Fiesta, or delicious, greasy Midwest food at Southside Diner.

Not a Lot, but It Gets the Job Done

Mount Vernon has some pretty good Indian restaurants as well as a good variety of chain fast food places. There is also a Ruby Tuesday, which everyone likes. The restaurants in Gambier are very good, but a little pricey. Most of them use local meats and vegetables.

5 Minutes to Mt. Vernon

Takes about five to ten minutes to drive into the town of Mt. Vernon to find a place to eat. La Fiesta is prime.
