Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Whether you’re from New England, California, or down the road in Columbus, Kenyon College has a weather pattern for you! Overall, the weather is fairly mild, but for those not used to having four seasons, it can come as a bit of a shock. The early months of the fall semester tend to be hot and muggy, before finally giving way to a brisk autumn. Winter is very cold and snow-filled, an unfortunate fact that requires both rain boots and mittens. Spring brings rain and a lot of it, causing walking paths to flood.

The most important weather-related thing to keep in mind at Kenyon is the volatility! What looked like a beautiful morning on the way to breakfast can quickly turn into a torrential downpour on the way back to the dorm, and it’s important to be prepared for all scenarios. Most students simply carry a waterproof bag with their things rather than worry about hauling an umbrella.

Deceptively Beautiful

Kenyon weather is the best in the country for the first three weeks and last three weeks of the school year. For everything in between, we barely see the sun. Students get seasonal affective (sp?) disorder all the time...and know that it's coming.

Don't Come If You Don't Dig the Winter

Winter dominates the majority of the school year, but the campus itself looks gorgeous all year 'round. If you hate snow, don't bother, but if you can stand the Ohio conditions, you'll be fine. The spring is beautiful, flowers bloom everywhere.

It's Ohio

The weather can hot and humid, or sunny and nice, or cold and windy, raining and thundering, or snowing when it decides to be. However, teachers live close by and rarely cancel class. It gets cold during the winter and the snow amount depends on the year.
