I find the athletic facilities to be fine, but that is from the perspective of a non-athlete who uses a small amount of the machines in the first place. Sports simply aren't important on campus. We have a good soccer team and I have heard there is usually a turnout for those games, but I personally have not involved myself in any sports.

I love Knox. I love the people I have met, and I love the fact that I have explored my mind and become a stronger, more confident person. I feel like the welcoming atmosphere is what really allowed me to do this. The reason I did not give my experience 5 stars is because the price is a serious issue, especially with my own background.

In the "Knox Bubble," everyone is extremely liberal. Issues related to diversity are discussed much more at Knox than they are anywhere else I have ever been, and everyone is on the same wavelength about discussing issues of prejudice to try to work past them. I feel like people who are similar tend to gravitate to each other so my personal group of friends is not as diverse as the campus as a whole, but I encounter a wide variety of people in my everyday life. The only stigma I can think of is probably against conservatives, but they are present on campus and have a club. I feel like the stigma is mostly against social conservatives because so many people at Knox are focused on human rights.

People do not often eat off-campus aside from when parents come to visit. There are a couple of spots in town that people go to (The Landmark is the nicer one and the only one that I am familiar with). The only time I eat off campus is if we go further into town to Steak n Shake or other fast food places; there are many fast food places but they are inconvenient and can only be reached by car.

I have found most of my psychology professors to be very well-educated in their fields. I do not often approach them for help, but they always have office hours that are available if you do need help. As an underclassmen, I have not done many hands-on things aside from participating in experiments. The workload has not been excessive but I have done a few projects and papers that have been particularly engaging and challenging.

Being at a small school, the environment is a lot different from other schools. Rather than having large lectures given by a TA, we have extremely small classes that are often discussion-based led by the professor. If there is a TA, they do small things, like grading papers, giving students help in class, holding study sessions, etc. The workload (at least in my classes) is largely based on the reading, and amount of reading can become somewhat daunting but still doable.

Your experience being exposed to drugs and alcohol largely depends on who you befriend and what you choose to do in your free time. It is easy to avoid it if you spend time with like-minded individuals and if you do not go to parties. It is not so easy if you go out every weekend and hang out with people who party, but that is common sense. I do not ordinarily experience any sort of peer pressure. It will vary depending on who you're friends with, but people don't care if you are or aren't doing drugs. I would say social norms more so facilitate not judging people depending on their decision, either way. In general, I don't think people get in trouble for drug and alcohol use. I have heard a few stories about people getting in trouble with campus safety, but that does not occur very often.

Knox is an incredibly expensive school and they do give a lot of aid to help. That said, even with much financial need, I was still told I had to take out a lot of loans and I still would owe them money out of pocket. If your family is able to help you pay, it might be doable because they do give quite a bit of aid, but if you are planning on solely relying on student loans and grants, you might not be so lucky.

Aside from the fact that our convenience store is a little bit overpriced, I have never had an issue with dining services. I cannot speak for people with special dietary needs because I do not focus much on my diet, but I find there to be a suitable variety of good options. There is usually something of interest in the cafeteria, and if there is not, there are other options - the "Gizmo" which serves many grilled and fried foods for flex dollars, and the convenience store, which has an array of available food options.

Cars are largely unnecessary if you live on campus. Knox is a very small school and it is completely unnecessary if you are traveling from your dorm to class or to the cafeteria; it takes less time to simply walk. However, I have a friend who has a car in order to travel off campus, and this is my only experience with a car on campus. It is rare that he is able to find a spot right next to our dorm, but there is a nearby parking lot that is a quick walk from our dorm. It would be more convenient to park on the street next to our dorm, but I would hardly call his situation inconvenient because it is still so close.

As a small campus, our facilities might not be as extensive as a large state school, but I am satisfied with them nonetheless. Our library is a good size, and the people who work there are helpful and work hard to help you as best as they can. Our athletic center has a variety of machines, and I am always able to find one to use. We have a lounge area in the basement of the student center; although I personally do not make much use of it, it's a really nice area with games, lounge chairs, TVs, video games, and more available for student use. There are often speakers, comedians, and other interesting events going on on campus, whether they be brought by our programming board or another group on campus.

Our school may not be the best fit for some students, but I have found it to be a perfect fit, and so have many of my friends. It has a very distinct feel on campus that attracts a certain kind of person. We are very liberal and we are very quirky. I don't think many schools could have the kinds of discussions that go on in our classes, as people here try to be educated about human rights. My high rating of our school is biased by the fact that it is such a good fit for me, but I feel it is a good environment.

I am not really informed when it comes to the topic of off-campus housing because I am not interested in, but I do know that you can ask people, and they will give you information.

When it comes to diversity, the majority is white. However, I do see that it is diverse, and that they are trying to make it more diverse. Since I have been here, I have met people from different cultures, and it is so interesting learning about them as well. Also, the campus has different ethnicity houses such as the international house, Casa Latina, Harambee, and Asian house, etc. Due to the multiple houses that there is, it is easy to learn about a culture and feel like a part of the community. I have not seen discrimination when it comes to race, and that is something that I really do like. The campus isn't only welcoming to diversity, but it is also welcoming people who like people from the same sex. I also think that this is another good aspect of the college. Knox to me has portrayed to me as a community who welcomes you for who you are and doesn't judge you, something that it is very difficult to find.

Well, I am from Chicago, so the weather is similar to what I am used to it. I understand that there are some cold days, and then there are days that are really nice. The local weather doesn't really affect my campus experience because I still go to the campus events because it's a small campus, so I don't need to walk a lot through the coldness to get to somewhere.

It was good. The admission counselor helped me a lot.

Galesburg is a unique city and has its own quirks and charms. It is a little run down but if you look in the right places you can find some real gems. There are antique malls, thrift stores, and restaurants.

Guys & Girls:
Everyone at Knox is unique and encouraged to be themselves. There is no "standard Knox student." Everybody is interested and involved in a variety of things, from fencing and sculpture to dance and athletics.

Health & Safety:
I have never felt unsafe on campus. Campus safetly is always there to walk students home if they feel unsafe, although I have never used that option. The campus is small so if you're walking home late at night you never have far to go.

There are a few off-campus houses and apartments and they are reasonably priced. The majority of students, however, live on campus all four years.

The school provides shuttles to and from local airports at the start and end of each term. There is also the Amtrak station within walking distance and multiple trains a day go to Chicago. There are also taxis and a public bus system if students need to get somewhere in Galesburg.

Knox has a lot of computers for student to use both in the math and science building as well as a 24 hour lab in the student union that has both Macs and PCs and make it easy and available for students to not have computer. That being said most student do have a computer, but most do not have a printer. Students get 300 free printing pages a term.

Galesburg has a variety of dining options, some within walking distance of campus. There are a handful of places that deliver to campus as well. There are a lot of chain restaurants but also a great variety of local places for students to discover.

I was not in need of financial ad from Knox itself. I therefore have no opinion on the matter.

There are a variety of ways to be involved in athletics at Knox. You can be involved in Varsity, club, or intermural sports. Athletes take their sports seriously and their friends come to support them at events.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
