Galesburg is a unique city and has its own quirks and charms. It is a little run down but if you look in the right places you can find some real gems. There are antique malls, thrift stores, and restaurants.

Galesburg is a nice and quiet place with quite some opportunities to get involved but there are also a lot lacking. It however makes up for this with its proximity to Peoria, the Quad cities as well as being just a train ride away from Chicago so it definitely helps to be able to escape the serene atmosphere for the raucous noise of the city once on a while.

Galesburg is a town that takes time to learn to love. It is small, Midwestern (read: predominantly conservative and working-class), and has struggled with more than its fair share of economic struggles in the past few decades. But it also has a lot of heart. Galesburg residents are resilient and down-to-earth. There are some incredible small, locally-owned shops and businesses scattered throughout town, and some FANTASTIC restaurants for those days when you want to get off campus/out of the dining halls and explore. Galesburg also boasts a Target, a Wal-Mart, two HyVees (a Midwestern grocery store chain), two Walgreen's, and various other stores where you can stock up on necessities, as well as tons of fast food options. If you absolutely need to satisfy an urban fix, Chicago and St. Louis are both about 3 hours away by train, and Peoria and the Quad Cities are about 40 minutes away.

Members of the Galesburg community can go either way. Some are dangerous while others are very nice. Knox students are very welcomed at some establishments; however, at others, they are criticized as being snobby/rich for going to a private school. There are some cool places in downtown Galesburg, like the Antique Mall and the attractions on Cherry Street. Other places are not good places for roaming.

Though Galesburg has a lot to offer and is a growing community, the college itself is in a really rough area. We get a lot of complaints of people being on campus who shouldn't be, and the whole relationship with the community is weak and untrusting. This year, Knox really started taking initiative to improve this, so maybe it will get better in the future.
