Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Since La Roche is a liberal arts college, students are required to take some classes in each subject. Although these courses are often boring and usually only cover the basics, most students admit later that they actually learned something from them. While many students dislike having to take classes that do not directly pertain to their respective majors, it is part of the school’s mission to help create well-rounded people for the work force. But, aside from the core requirements, La Roche’s degree programs mainly include courses in the field of study a student is interested in. Most students respond well to this major specific aspect of the curriculum. The professors at La Roche are generally friendly and very helpful, and they provide an inviting atmosphere conducive to the learning process. Many are highly active in their specialties outside the classroom as well. For instance, several of the English professors are published authors, some of the criminal justice professors are retired FBI agents, and a few design teachers own their own firms. At a small school like La Roche, there is a lot of potential for any student, regardless of ability and previous experience. The professors make sure that no student is left behind or forgotten.

Academics Offered at La Roche

I really think La Roche does a great job with their academics. All of my professors I have had at La Roche helped me with everything I needed and since my biggest class was with around 20 people this was very easy to do. The registration process for classes is very easy. We meet with our adviser and discuss the classes we should take based on our major - we then schedule our classes online. The workload can be tiresome - so I make sure to only take as many credits as I can handle. The teachers are very understanding with this and do their best to not schedule tests on the same days or give us too much homework/studying but when combining all of the classes the workload could easily get out of hand - this is why it is important to make sure you do not procrastinate and get your work turned by the assigned date.

El Ed@La Roche

At La Roche College, the class sizes are small so everyone knows eachother. I am an elementary education major and I feel that I will be a prepared teacher once I graduate and am happy with my education. Student and teacher advice and compliments are sought and given when there is peer teaching. The staff is very helpful and has experience. There is an honorary fraternity that gives experience such as tutoring and is good on a resume. I enjoy the off-campus real-life experience.

One-On-One Attention

Having taken 147 credits at La Roche, I've experienced a wide array of professors. Almost all of them were extremely helpful and accessible. Most are easy to talk to and will help you outside of class if you need it. The academics are excellent--nothing is watered down, everything is relevant, and while the courses can be challenging, they prepare you well for whatever you want to do. There aren't too many summa cum laude graduates, which speaks for the rigor of the programs. If you need tutoring in a class, you can usually find it either through the school or independently. I used to tutor students in several courses (free of charge, no less) and found it easy to advertise for sessions.
