College Prowler Take
A college dorm usually conjures up an image of a small, cramped cinder-block room. La Roche’s dorm rooms break that mold. They are spacious, fully furnished, carpeted, and equipped with private bathrooms and plenty of closet space. The air conditioning and heating in each room is student-controlled. High-speed Internet access and cable TV services are provided—students just have to bring a computer and television. All of the dorms are located on the East Campus, making it easy to get to and from classes. On the negative side, the poor overhead lighting adds a touch of a prison-like feeling, but students are welcome to bring their own lamps to avoid feeling institutionalized. Also, the residents here often complain that the walls are too thin and that you can hear everything that goes on in a neighboring room, which is especially annoying when trying to study or sleep.
There is a “no sex on campus” policy instituted due to the College’s Roman Catholic affiliation, and students of the opposite sex are not allowed in one another’s rooms after 2 a.m. Not to worry though—not too many people get caught breaking this rule. Generally speaking, students at La Roche enjoy the on-campus housing, and most are very happy they decided to reside on campus.
