Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The one phrase you will never hear on the La Roche campus is “pledge week.” For reasons unknown, the College doesn’t have any social sororities or fraternities, though there are a few academic Greek societies. Some students think it’s a good thing that there isn’t any traditional Greek life here while others find it’s a bad thing. So, it seems to be a matter of personal preference. Although the college experience doesn’t seem to be quite complete without the chaos of a pledge week or nightly parties thrown by different Greek groups, the students here don’t seem to have a problem throwing parties of their own. Attend one frat party, attend one hundred frat parties. Beer bongs, keg stands, and stumbling through the streets are not the types of things that La Roche students are looking for.

Theories and speculation as to why La Roche has no Greek life are made on an almost daily basis. The main
assumption is that it’s because of the College’s Roman Catholic basis. But, whatever the reason, La Roche does not and never has had any social Greek life.

Greek Organizations = Honors Societies

If you ask people at LRC about their Greek organizations, they'll tell you they are in one for their major (such as Psi Chi or Kappa Delta Epsilon). There are no Greek houses, Greek parties, or anything of the like. The Greek groups usually center around academics and service. I recommend joining one if you meet the criteria (usually GPA-based), as it offers networking and career advancement.

I’m glad we have no sororities or frats. They are over-rated anyway.
