College Prowler Take
Computing Services and the IT Department on campus try to make students aware of all the viruses out there that can infect our wireless network. But unlike a few years ago, the wireless network is much more reliable. It can definitely get slow when students sign up for classes online, so a wired connection to the Internet is also suggested. When the network is up and running, it’s fantastic. Computers on the Lafayette server are equipped with Zimbra for e-mail, and messages are delivered rapidly. But when things aren’t working, students get a little angry. The Internet is such a large part of a student’s life that Lafayette College that life is put on hold—in terms of academics—until the network is back up and running.

I’d recommend bringing your own, as you will be able to work on your assignments at your own pace. The network has a tendency to slow down and crash when everyone is on the Internet or Instant Messenger, especially late at night. The labs become very crowded around midterms and finals time. |

With the existence of AIM, I feel that I’d be lost without my own personal computer! I’ve never really felt the need to use a computer lab, but I know that they are very accessible and rarely are completely packed. Plus, the library has their own laptops for students to rent if they need the quiet atmosphere to work on a paper. As for the network, I’m not going to lie, it has a tendency to go down a lot; however, I have numerous friends at other schools that complain about the very same thing. |

The computer network, although it...
The computer network, although it may have some glitches every now and then, works fairly efficiently. If they ever do specific work on the network, Computing Services will send out a mass e-mail, which notifies everyone. I would recommend bringing your own computer to college. Lafayette computer labs at the library are frequently busy, and nothing beats the convenience of having your own. |

The computer network and e-mail services are fast and efficient. There are plenty of computer labs on campus, so you will always find an open computer to use. Yet, I would still suggest bringing your own computer. |

Bring your own computer. If you haven’t used a Mac before, this is the chance! Mac’s are great, and there isn’t a single thing you need a PC for. The network is slow at times, but generally works fine. |
