Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Lafayette College is an aesthetically pleasing campus. The quad, an expanse of immaculately manicured grass and trees, is the unofficial nucleus of the campus grounds. Trees line the streets that loop around the various academic buildings and residence halls, and the statue of the Marquis de Lafayette overlooks the perpetually-tinkling fountain of Colton Chapel—until winter sets in, that is. Student and athletic centers are diligently well-kept. Farinon Center, the college’s student center, is home to the campus’s major student-led clubs and organizations. The school newspaper, aptly titled "The Lafayette," operates out of the first floor of Farinon. Student government, Association For Lafayette Feminists, the International Students Association, Landis Community Outreach Center—these are some of the organizations that line the first floor of Farinon. The basement of the student center also has the Limburg Theater, where monthly screenings of recently-released films play throughout the week. The Kirby Sports Center is also a hub of student activity, a favorite of athletes and non-athletes alike. The rock-climbing wall is a gem, along with the two indoor swimming pools, the indoor track, the squash and racquetball courts, and the Kamine gym.

Various parts of the campus are frequently renovated and updated. The campus has recently undergone a facelift, in order to make it more pedestrian friendly. Different academic and administrative buildings are also subjected to scaffolding throughout the year. Both Skillman and Kirby libraries are wonderfully equipped to deal with students’ needs. The libraries offer personalized research assistants, a variety of media equipment, an expansive DVD and VHS collection, and nearly a quarter of a million books and periodicals.

Campus Is Awesome

The facilities at Lafayette are really good. My favorite building is the library. It was recently renovated and the atmosphere is perfect to study in. The skill man cafe in the library is also very nice. The Farinon student center is also very nice and has 2 food places. Upper Farinon is a cafeteria and has really good food. Lower Farinon is more of a on the go eating place and also has great options. Over all the facilities are really nice and there are plenty of places to hangout and do work.

Academic Buildings

I love the fact that at Lafayette a lot of the departments have their own academic buildings or share it with only one or two similar departments. This means that a lot of the departments have their own distinct feel as a result of their own building, classrooms, faculty, and students. You really feel as though you've entered into a community atmosphere when you are interested in a department. This has at least been the case for me in the humanities and social sciences departments in which I have taken classes.

Libraries

The libraries here at Lafayette College are very good. They have all the resources a student needs. From renting laptops to renting cameras to printing for free to study rooms, etc. Very well set up and a really good variety of art. Skillman, Starbucks, Cafe is very necessary and satisfies all the students on campus.

"Green" Initiatives

Students are especially involved in sustainability issues. The Society of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (SEES) works hard to promote student research in sustainability; plus, the student-run group also participates in local improvement projects and outreach programs.

Favorite Things To Do

During the week, Gilbert's is packed and so is the gym. The athletic facilities are modern and fabulous; exercise classes and equipment are free to students. In Farinon, movies are cheap and offered every Wednesday through Sunday at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the Lafayette Activities Forum (LAF) sponsors comedians and bands for students wanting to stay on campus.

You can go to the gym, see a movie, attend a Patriot League basketball game, or sample the cheese fries at Gilbert's.
