Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship

This was definitely the deciding factor for me when I was looking at colleges. The Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship (CaPA) is a new program (as of about 2010), into which up to ten incoming students are invited each year. The student must have a creative or performing art, such as music, dance, art, creative writing, etc. The fellowship offers money for the student to use for their art, as well as a place for artists to discuss their projects and to meet other professional artists brought on campus. This is Lafayette's conscious effort to highlight the artistic talents of its students on campus.

It's Good.

I've bashed on the people that go here, but the school itself is really nice, challenging, and has a lot of activities to do.

Facts

Traditions
  • Dance Marathon: Pi Beta Phi’s annual philanthropy event is an all-night dance contest in which organizations and other Greek houses participate.
  • Greek Olympics: During the spring semester, all Greek houses play against one another in a number of events, like tug-of-war and mattress races, to crown the champion of the fraternities and sororities.
  • Lehigh/Lafayette Football Game: Probably one of the best weekends of the school year, the game is either at home on Fisher Field, or students are bused over to Lehigh (it alternates annually). It is the oldest rivalry in college football, and it shows. Students spend Friday night drinking, Saturday morning drinking, Saturday afternoon going to the game, taking a nap, and then—guess what?—more drinking.
  • Senior Week: All seniors get to have a special week on campus after finals and before graduation. For about $70, seniors get a wristband that allows them discounts at bars, free food, and special events.
Urban Legends
  • Sororities on campus are not allowed to have a personal chef or own their own house like the fraternities do because of an old Pennsylvania law declaring that a group of more than 12 women living together is considered a brothel.
  • The fifth floor of Pardee Hall is haunted.
  • There is an underground tunnel system below the quad.
