Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Lafayette College guarantees on-campus housing all four years. However, the College recently suffered from overbooking residence halls. Some off-campus facilities, like the Newman House, have been turned into student residence halls to accommodate the larger class sizes. Most of the students who opt for off-campus housing are typically upperclassmen who have their own cars and off-campus jobs/internships and want to get away from the campus “bubble.” Off-campus housing is available through the lottery system, and seniors have first priority. However, off-campus housing is more expensive. That being said, those who choose to live off campus also forego the meal plan (which many students claim is expensive and not worth its value) to make up for the extra costs.

Most off-campus houses are on Parsons Street, right across from the Kirby Sports Center. They are equipped with kitchens, dining rooms, and two to three bedrooms. The apartments are not quite as well-kept, but students appreciate the independence. College policies do apply to off-campus housing, as well, even though policies are not as strictly implemented. Proximity to class is not usually an issue, with the exception of traveling to class in bad weather. Most students, however, choose to stay on campus.

They Are Taking It Away

what little off campus housing that existed is now being taken away by LLC living learning communities which will be dry. This will leave partying to your room or one of 4 frats, 2 of which are on probation.

Terrible, School Owned Buildings

The School is going to have essentially a monopoly on off campus housing, and its going to be for "special interest groups." This means sports teams cannot have off campus houses. It also means less social life

Availability

Most off campus house are given to different organizations on campus such as ABC, HSL, Hillel and athletes houses. Also, there are some off campus houses for students that are not involved in any organizations on campus. They are available but I don't feel that they are advertised that much and they are mostly offered to upperclassmen.
