Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For students coming from the South or the West Coast, the weather on campus can be surprisingly cold. Fall semester starts off with pleasant weather: sunshine and blue skies, cool breezes, and changing foliage. However, the campus does get hit by frequent rain spells. The weather can be especially rainy, making the campus somewhat difficult to navigate. Coupled with the frequent renovation work, rainy weather can become a hindrance.

The winter months are probably the most brutal. The campus is usually covered in snow, although the walkways are cleared at regular intervals. There have been some half-days in the last few years, although classes don’t typically get canceled due to bad weather. The quad, the busiest thoroughfare of the campus, gets completely covered in snow from November to January; during these months, students have to find other ways to get to where they need to go. The few months of spring are probably the longest stretch of good weather that most students experience on campus before they leave for the summer. Days are sunny and cool, and the roads are not covered in snow or mud. Spring is also prime fashion season for Lafayette’s fashion-savvy students. For students who stay on campus over the summer, either performing research or at on-campus jobs, summer can be a challenge. Most dorms lack central air conditioning, and the campus does have a spell of 90 F days.

Welcome to the Northeast

All four seasons exist here. Autumns are brisk and beautiful. Winters are snow-filled with plenty of sledding. Springs are pleasant with plenty of outdoor time. Summers are scorching. You get the best and worst of four worlds.

RAINNN Smh

It can rain about ten times a day in the fall. No exaggeration. And it's terrible trying to walk across campus in the rainy weather, with the muddy lawns and wet sloping sidewalks/paths/stairs. But when it's sunny, it's BEAUTIFUL, that's for sure. Also it gets colder than other parts of Pennsylvania and the other places in the tri-state area, but it's not unbearable.

Typical North East Weather

Obviously, we get typical northeast weather. Most people are used to it, and endure the schlepp through snow and ice during the winter, and enjoy the beautiful fall and spring weather.
