Health & Safety:
With such a small campus, there is no need to feel unsafe. The people and staff at LCAD are so warm and welcoming that I feel no need to be fearful.

I have lived in a desert my entire life and now I am attending college right next to the beach! I could not have asked for any better weather than the atmosphere at the beach!

I have not received all the financial aid I need. I am still looking for any scholarships, grants, and loans to further help me with the costs of my tuition at LCAD. Although this campus has an excellent education, the tuition costs are extremely high for me. Any help is greatly appreciated and will go towards my greatest education yet.

Being in the heart of Laguna Beach, the off-campus dining is so diverse through cultural influences. Every other shop is either an art gallery or a local, trendy restaurant.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T22:14:26Z
This campus is completely drug free from my knowledge and understanding. This is a place where students come to succeed and excel their lives to the fullest of their abilities, not to throw everything they have worked so hard for away from the use of drugs and alcohol.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T22:12:35Z
Because the campus is located in the Laguna Canyon, it makes it difficult for students to live near the campus. Laguna Beach is a pricy area to live in, especially if you are a starving college student.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T22:10:40Z
I have taken one summer school class at LCAD and in that three week crash course, I learned more than a whole two years at Orange Coast College.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T22:09:44Z
The size of LCAD is very small and more personal. The atmosphere at this college is that of great joy and accomplishment. The student to teacher ratio is very small, making this campus virtually welcoming. LCAD is a place where your friend can be literally everyone on the campus.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T22:09:44Z
Upon acceptance to this campus you are greeted with the upmost kindness from everyone on the LCAD board and staff. They open their arms to you with the dedication to help you succeed in any circumstance.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T22:06:35Z
The computers at LCAD are up-to-date with the professional field of Graphic Design. LCAD offers programs that no other campus in the nation offers such as the complex animation and design program known as Maya.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T22:03:10Z
Parking at LCAD is extremely easy because it is such a small campus with very few students. There is always a space available to park.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T21:59:28Z
I have been informed that shuttle and bus stops are frequent for students attending LCAD to guarantee their safety as well as to ensure that they have proper transportation to and from classes. For myself, I prefer to drive myself to school because I live twenty minutes from the campus and must take the freeway to get there.

Guys & Girls:
The people who have been accepted to this college are extremely hard working and talented artists. They have chosen to be with the best of the best. These students that attend this college will be the future artists of this nation and will impact the media greatly with their dedication and passion to produce works of art.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T21:54:03Z
I chose this campus in particular because of it's academic excellence. I see a bright future for myself at this college because of the hard work I put into my assignments and the dedication each professor has for their students success. This campus is strict in it's own right to encourage absolute success for the students that attend this challenging college. I am extremely grateful for my acceptance to LCAD and plan to exceed all of my expectations and graduate with an internship to an action sports company.

Guys & Girls:
Most of the artsy guys at our school tend to be a little introverted, with the girls taking the leads in social situations. They are awesome though, and most of them are really very smart and fun to watch as they do their art stuff.
College Sophomore 2013-08-31T22:20:47Z
The school shuttle is amazing, it is so convenient and the driver is always kind and communicative, but if they had them visit each campus more often, or maybe go to more places other than only school, then it might get an A+ from me.

Laguna Beach is filled with convenient apartment complexes that are affordable with a comfortable amount of roommates, and much cheaper than housing with the school.

Great program. Brand new apple desktops every year loaded with all current software and access to studios on weekends and nights. Small class sizes, wonderful opportunities for growth with company sponsored classes (past sponsors include nike, vans, watg). Instructors will go out of the way to help you if you ask for it and work hard...great school that helps you get a job

As a design major with an action sports emphasis I've had many unique opportunities. We have guest speakers come often and classes are taught mainly by working professionals. We also have courses led by Nike, Vans and other industry leaders. The location in south orange county is great for anyone who wants to work i the action sports field because it is home to many major and boutique brands. At LCAD you have to have an internship to graduate which is important

Depends on what you mean by "academics"...art classes are wonderful. Liberal Arts course are not difficult...I had harder classes in 8th grade. That being said it is an ART school, so if you are looking to be pushed in other fields, dont bet on it. my design skills have improved greatly in just one semester. Instructors are knowledgeable, working professionals in their field and are willing to give you extra help/mentor you if you work hard and approach them.
The reason I give it a B- is because professors are not by any means rigorous...meaning you get what you put into a course. most professors here are all not actual trained teachers, but professional artists...meaning they arent too strict, allow late work, dont take attendance often, etc...
this is a blessing and a curse. i like that they are laidback, but this can also cause you to slack off and not accomplish much. ive seen plenty of my classmates take advantage of teachers and skip class all the time/rarely turn in assignments, but in the long run youre only hurting yourself. as someone whos older and self-motivated i like the laidback approach of LCAD, but if you need discipline this might not be the place for you. however i the real world isnt gonna hold your hand either
College Junior 2013-07-28T16:40:14Z
As a small art school with less than 500 students greek life is non-existent. However this is a non-issue for me. The school is amazing and you will improve your art skills tremendously...but if youre looking for some crazy, Van Wilder, frathouse college experience, this isn't the place for you.

The parking at LCAD is more than adequate. The permit is included in the tuition (which is itself fairly substantial). There is some need for a car, or at least a carpool group. While public transportation within Laguna Beach is just fine, there is really no affordable housing for starving students in the city. Taking the bus is a time consuming affair and many grad students sleep in their studios.

The Laguna College of Art and Design is an excellent alternative to the usual curiculum and philosophies found in CA art schools. LCAD focuses primarily on figurative work. It is a small school which has a very specific theme. If you are an abstract painter, performance artist, or installation artist, this probably isn't the school for you. The professors are themselves, exceptionally talented artists with rich histories of showing and selling figurative art work. It is refreshing to find a group of instructors who can actually help their students with technical and professional skills.

The city of Laguna Beach has regular buses and taxis patrolling the canyon. The heavy turist load requires this, especially in the summer when the major art festivals are open. The school itself has a free shuttle service which helps transport students between the main campus, and the numerous satellite locations up and down the canyon.

I am a fine art major in the graduate program at LCAD. I have found the academics here to be exceptional, particularly in my studio art classes. The proffersors have a keen interest in their subject matter, as well as their students comprehension and personal growth. My only critique would be that at times, the modern theories of pedagogy put into practice at LCAD, sacrifice learning for egalitarianism in the classroom. The classes can be too student driven. I would like to see certain instructors take a more prominent lead in class discussions, which can sometimes get derailed from the subject at hand.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
