Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Security is not a campus department that students fear. Students instead look forward to running into the guards, even on the weekends. Completely approachable, security guards maintain a comfortable atmosphere on campus and lively, friendly relationships with students. The main reason for such a great relationship is that the officers aren’t interested in punishing students or looking to find them in trouble. They would rather maintain the sense of comfortable protection you would get from your own home and only step in when necessary. Students reciprocate this by freely speaking to them at any time, for both conversation and reporting complaints. While incidents are few, security does not slack on their duties. They have a 24-hour patrol, both on foot and by car, so their presence, while pleasant, is constant. Another method of campus-wide safety is the WhistleStop program, a national program that provides students with whistles at the beginning of the year. These whistles are loud enough to be heard for miles and are only to be used in case of emergency. in addition, keys are needed to enter all dorms on campus at night. The need for security is not strong, and the security guards may be few, but their great efforts are in the best interest of the students, and they succeed in preserving the safe feeling on campus.

Very Safe

The campus is small and I would not be afraid walking around after dark. However, you will want to make sure your door is locked to avoid theft (for example there has been instances of computers being stolen).

Security Is Always There!

Lawrence's security staff is top-notch. They are always present around campus and respond quickly to every call they get regarding safety of the students, unlocking doors, and petty theft. I have never felt unsafe on campus and Appleton is generally a very safe city to live in.

Security is pretty lax at Lawrence...

Security is pretty lax at Lawrence compared to most colleges, probably because Lawrence is a pretty safe place to be.
