Cool Nerd

Lawrence to me felt like a place where everyone is a nerd but that is okay. Everyone is accepted for who they are. The students at Lawrence are generally progressive. Parties are open to everyone and no one is turned away. Because we are such a small community everyone finds their place and everyone gets along because everyone knows everyone.

Small Liberal Arts Is the Way to Go

LU is a great place to get a wonderful education; not only academically and artistically, but also a great place to get educated on yourself. The small community makes for tight bonds that will last a lifetime and an experience that's worth every penny of loans you might leave with. Here, peers and professors will always have your back and will always be striving to see you succeed.

Traditions
  • Greek Pranks : Friendly rivalry is a long-lived tradition on campus. Recent pranks have included painting all doors on a frat house pink and filling an entire sorority room with small cups of water.
  • Greek Week : This is an annual event for all Greek organizations, or any other club on campus, to get involved in community service and fundraising. Events include a lip-sync contest, cheer competition, Anchorsplash (a philanthropic event), and a Twister tournament.
  • Melee Dance Recital : This student-led and -choreographed dance troupe performs a recital every year. The pieces range from ballet to modern to hip-hop.
  • The Nipple of Knowledge : Students climb up to the top of the original Lawrence building to sign their name in paint on what is designated as the nipple of knowledge.
  • The Rock : Different groups on campus used to do all they could to obtain a much-coveted rock. It was stolen from group after group on campus until some students from Plantz got a hold of it. Now it lies on the bottom of the Fox River.
  • Trivia Week : Founded in 1966, the “World’s Largest Trivia Contest” is an annual trivia extravaganza that lasts 24 hours a day for three days. People participate both off campus and on by answering the trivia questions broadcast from WLFM, Lawrence’s radio station. The campus creates groups and collects sponsorships from Appleton businesses. Even participants from Japan partake in the trivia.
