Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Only students who are married, have dependents, or have been out of high school at least five years are allowed to live off campus. even if a student is eligible for living off campus, it is still mandatory to have a campus meal plan. This is enforced to make sure that students are still part of the community even though they do not live in the dorms. Another deterrent to living off campus is the high rent for apartments near the school. Most students that do live off campus stay close by with apartments in walking distance on College avenue or by the Fox river, but since these areas are part of downtown appleton, the rates are very high. While being able to get off campus and develop a life separate from school seems refreshing, dorm life is one of the central social aspects of Lawrence. Dorm living and dorm party-hopping are the best ways to meet new people. With Lawrence’s demanding schedule and the required meal plan, most of a student’s time will be spent on campus anyway. very few students choose to live off campus. instead, it is usually due to a personal obligation. Lawrence offers very little help finding an apartment off campus and otherwise discourages off-campus housing.

Dorm Life Is the ONLY Life

First off, everyone is required to live on campus all four years except the returning to school adults. There are plenty of dorms to choose from, and the rooms are quite comfy to live in if you find a bedding arrangement suitable to your style. The cost is pricey, but it is an expensive liberal arts college to begin with. There are apartments owned by the college, but from what I've heard, they're hard to get into without being a senior. To live here in Appleton, Wisconsin, its probably the safest place I've been in my whole life. Crime doesn't seem to be a big issue here. Parking isn't too bad, if you're not a freshmen. Those who do bring cars (which aren't many) either getting parking on campus, or walk five or six blocks to the parking garage, which isn't worth paying a plan for. Have two dollars for each entry and you're set. Lawrence is downtown Appleton, so everything is usually within parking distance.
