Campus Security? Oh, I Thought Those Guys Were Sig Eps
A+
Campus security at Lawrence is something of a joke; not because they aren't helpful or that the campus isn't safe, because that's not true - a student can call them at any time of the day or night if they need a ride, or if they want help getting a drunk friend back to their dorm. In terms of enforcing drug and alcohol policies, however, they are almost nonexistent. Almost every Lawrence student has had the experience of a party getting busted by campus security, only to hear. "Hey, guys, you might want to put away your alcohol - the town cops are hanging around campus."

I wouldn’t leave. No way. I love it here. |

I love all the people that I have...
I love all the people that I have met. The things I have learned academically and personally have helped me become the person I am today. I wouldn’t trade any of my mistakes, good times, bad times, etc., for another experience. I look forward to making a career for myself, and I think that Lawrence is preparing me by helping me figure out what I want to do and not telling me what I am supposed to do. I have found my passions and how to achieve my goals at Lawrence. Let’s just hope they work out! |

Lawrence is good about having shuttles to take students to the mall. And the Greyhound station is only a few blocks from campus. |

The bus station is two blocks away. The local bus goes all around the Appleton area, and you can also catch a Greyhound bus to Milwaukee, Madison, or Chicago. Most of the time, there are students on campus with cars, but if you can’t get a ride, the bus is cheap and safe, and it gets you anywhere in Appleton. One of the greatest conveniences is that it runs every half hour to the Fox River Mall. |

Basketball, due to its recent success, is popular, but otherwise there is poor attendance at other varsity sporting events. A lot of students tend to participate in intramural sports though. |

The teachers at Lawrence are exceptional because they are not only very knowledgeable, they also know how to teach their knowledge to us. All the professors I have come across are very friendly and open to questions, and many of them are approachable enough to talk to on a personal level. Lawrence professors are great. They are always willing to help and be there for the students, and I think that is hard to come by. |

I absolutely love the teachers at Lawrence. They are accessible outside of class time, often giving their home phone numbers to you in case you need to contact them at night and on the weekends. They are all pretty tough academically but willing to help you out any way they can. I have found the majority of my classes to be interesting. The subject matter is usually taught in an appropriate manner. |

The music program is great, and the professors are very encouraging and welcoming to non-majors, especially in the vocal program. It is great to see your peers perform, and guest artists also frequent the campus |

My classes haven’t been all that particularly interesting, but I find that if the professor is excited and outgoing about teaching, the class can be a lot more interesting. I especially liked my art history class. |

Residents of appleton seem to have a lot of respect for the school. People in Wisconsin are generally very friendly. it’s a safe, quiet place to go to school, which parents love, but that can get boring for students. |

Appleton is not a huge metropolis by any means, but it is a very safe and enjoyable town. There is a great variety of restaurants, and it is a very family-oriented place. |

There isn’t really anything interesting to stay away from or visit. The bar scene is fairly interesting for a smaller town. The closest other universities are about a half an hour away. Appleton is a very quaint and friendly town. There is stuff to do, but you have to look for it. We are lucky because we are located right in the downtown area, which is where there is the greatest amount of activity. |

Coming from an actual city,...
Coming from an actual city, Appleton feels like a rural village. There aren’t any other schools to speak of in the vicinity. The Fox Valley Technical College doesn’t really qualify, since it’s a commuter school. |

Appleton is a very safe, friendly place. It’s not too big or too small. It’s got a lot to offer, yet at the same time it has a friendly small-town community feel. No other universities are present. I haven’t had a chance to go see it yet, but there is a Houdini Museum that sounds interesting. The mall is also very nice. |

There are no really close universities to Lawrence other than a tech school and two-year university, but we have little contact with those students. |

The atmosphere in Appleton is pretty laid-back and quiet, just people living their everyday lives. There are a few other branches of the University of Wisconsin about 10 minutes or so away, but the major universities are all about two hours away. |

The town itself isn’t great. There are things to do, but most of them are within driving distance, not walking distance. |

The town is one of the safest towns in the United States. We hardly have to worry about robbery or other dangers. We are located on College Avenue with cute coffee shops and many great bars. There are a couple of clubs, a good mall, and many restaurants. There could be more to do, but considering the size of Appleton, we’re getting a good deal. |

Appleton is a quaint town that didn’t appear very interesting at first. But after being at Lawrence for a couple of years, I find that there is always something to do. College Avenue is great and within walking distance, and then there is the more commercial part of town where you could find anything that you need. At the same time, you could escape everything and just sit by the river, or do recreational things at High Cliff Park. |

We’re kind of out in the middle of nowhere. It’s not too bad, but it’s definitely not a big city life. There are a couple of other universities present, but no one really associates with them. Mill Creek Café is awesome for ‘80s night. |

The surrounding town and the campus are both interwoven and separate. The students are more liberal and intimate among each other, while the ‘townies’ are usually absent from our bubble. Upperclassmen sometimes have contact with town residents when they go to bars and such. There are other universities in the area, but I have never seen or met anyone from them. |

Appleton is a really safe town,...
Appleton is a really safe town, and the restaurants are great. There are many choices for dinners and dates. Appleton is generally supportive of Lawrence, but I often feel that Lawrence is more of a supporter of Appleton. At times, Lawrence is also like a bubble inside of Appleton. Not a whole lot goes on between them other than the bars. |

I like Appleton a lot, especially since the campus is so close to town. It’s really nice. I’d say stay away from the bars where the creepy townies go, but the salsa dancing at Tom’s Garage is really fun for those people who love to dance. |
